16/5/19 Back again

Okay , here we are again with a catch up . We stopped at a friends place in Waroona and had the best couple of days catching up with Mick & Sue . Playing golf on Saturday and then going crabbing on Sunday at Heron Point . The blue manna crabs have decided to call  it quits for the season - we didn't get as many as our previous visit , but we got enough for a feed which we enjoyed . This is heron Point on the estuary south of Mandurah .

From Waroona we went to Mandurah for a week of catch up with Em and a birthday party on Saturday night . Terry's 60th was a great night , a late one as well - we got back home at 1:20am .
Next day we found a track near us that we'd previously walked on , it took us along the Serpentine River for about 3klms , there are lots of parks & jetties along the way .

This is another view of Serpentine River and the Peel Estuary that it flows into - yep another drone shot - get used to them , they are getting popular with us .

Another day saw us catch up with Gerry & Beryl - a couple we met in Marble Bar 3 years ago . A late lunch at a local cafe in Rockingham was another great place to dine at . As usual a short catch up usually turns into several hours later . The drone came out after , this is Garden Island , you can see the long road that goes over to the island to the naval base .

This is the view out to Point Peron , their are plenty off yachts berthed here , there's also the sailing club just before the road to Garden Island .

With all our engagements taken care of , it was time to head north to warmer temperatures . The road we took was along the Kwinana Freeway and through the centre of Perth , then along the Mitchell Freeway - what a great drive we had , we had one traffic light when we left , then didn't have another one after that and we'd just driven through a city - no traffic lights , how good is that !!!
We headed back north of Greenhead to a spot we camped at last year at Cliff Head , and got the same spot . This is it and then there's the sunset as well , a good days drive topped off with the sunset .

Next day we headed further to Geraldton for a few days and a couple of games of golf - one of which I got beaten on a count back for 1st place on 41 points , the 2nd game was a real non event - should have been happy with the 1st one - that's golf for you .
Our next destination was Gregory - Port Gregory , we had visited here before but not stayed . So 3 nights were spent here , there is a stand out attraction here - Pink Lake - it is down in level as they haven't had very much rain at all this year . After setting up , we headed down the track in the next photo and got the drone out , there are a series of photo's of the lake & surrounds .
Port Gregory is the small village in the middle top of photo . The lake is another salt lake , but is only as deep as your knees , and it attracts thousands of visitors weekly . There are plane flights over it , people driving here for a look as they pass through , and tour buses that stop here as well .

The barricaded areas to the left are in fact a beta carotene producing business - one of the largest in the world apparently and is owned by BASF .

It is separated from the ocean by sand dunes , and there is fresh water soaking into it from the edge of the dunes .

This is the causeway just outside Port Gregory and made an interesting photo just for all the different colours - the bright pink is lake water , the orange is slightly salty water , and the green is fresh water. Then there's the orange gravel beside the road and the black lines are pipelines that they use to bring water in from the ocean .

And another sunset for you , with the local Osprey flying through as well .

Next day we went for a Pink Lake Tour , it took us up through the dunes to areas you can only get to with a dune buggy type vehicle . This is looking out over the dune onto the lake - it was blowing pretty strong and sand was going everywhere - the dunes was shifting as we watched .

Back down to lakeside , this shot shows how the salt forms and expands , cracking and pushing up at weak points , and was very crunchy underfoot .

Here's 20 more tourists checking it out .

Another day topped off with another smashing sunset .

In this photo we are standing on a cliff above Little Bay and looking northwest to Port Gregory in the distance .

The drone came out again - this is looking down to the village of Horrocks in the distance . There is a campground below us , the small bare patch below us is the next destination .

And here it is looking back up at the dunes . We had an interesting drive through a lot of sand to get there - not somewhere you'd take our van , probably not many vans would make it here at all , just tents I think .

Back to the van for lunch and the ute then got a wash - bore water is the water supply in Port Gregory - signs are everywhere to say Non Potable water , so you have to bring water with you . They do have rain water tanks in the park for drinking water .
And another sunset to drive you crazy .
