20/7/17 Unexpected surprise

After our big day yesterday , we didn't have much planned for today , originally we were moving further north but decided to stay another day . Back some years ago on our honeymoon we drove out to Cedar Creek Falls and Conway Beach , you guessed it , that's todays destination .
The drive out wasn't as breezy as it was all those years ago - we were in a mini moke then . Arriving at the car park , it was only a 40m walk to the plunge pool below the falls - I had memories of a stagnant pool of water and nothing flowing into it or out of it - not very exciting , but got a pleasant surprise to see the plunge pool was full , water clear and fish swimming around , the waterfall was just above a trickle though .

We chatted to a swedish girl as she stood knee deep in the cool water , she told us about an upper pool and another waterfall , and she said if I can get up there anyone can , so we found the track and set off . It wasn't a formed track , rather a goat track to the top of the falls .

Back to the track and it got steeper , we scrambled up further and made it the top . Over a few fallen trees and sloping rock shelves and we arrived at a pool of water about 40m long and a small waterfall at the end .

The mosquito's were starting to get fierce so we headed back down before they carried us away . On the road to Conway Beach , there's a side road that we took , it went down and over Conway Creek , yep here's the photo .

Beside the creek was a bush similar to the one at Carmilla , this one was much bigger and out in full flower .

Out to Conway Beach , and again from memory , I thought it wasn't remarkable - a very shallow beach facing toward the southeast , with very murky water . We arrived at the beach , my memories were still pretty clear and nothing had changed - a few more houses maybe , but that was it . We had a bit of a look at the beach , the tide was well out , and the beach is showing signs of damage from the cyclone - rocks placed along the front edge to protect the palm trees and stop everything being washed away . Some palm trees had been removed and there was debris all along the beach .
We headed up to a lookout above the beach , it does look better from above than down on the beach.

With that we headed back to do some shopping and lunch , then the excitement of doing our tax - Yay !!

21/7/17

Pack up day , heading further north to Bowen - only about 70klms away , we made by 11:30am , were set up and having a Bbq lunch . The drive took us through cane fields and then they stopped and cattle grazing took over .
Heading into Bowen , we ended up at Flagstaff Hill Lookout - very impressive 360 degree views out to Gloucester Island and the entrance into Bowen harbour between Stone Island and North Head Island and all of Bowen .

Middle Island is the small one on the left , Gloucester Island is the huge one in the centre and Hideaway Bay is on the mainland at the end of Gloucester Island . North Head Island has the lighthouse .

North Head Island and the channel behind it into the harbour , then Stone Island .

  Bowen Harbour & township .

  Kings Beach .

A lonely frangipani flower .
Then we headed to Cape Edgecumbe and Horseshoe Bay , another hike up the rocky outcrop above the bay for sweeping 360 degree views again .

This one is down on the beach , great views again .

 That's it , all up to date , here's a map link :- https://drive.google.com/open?id=1dIjpyUfNoNgupWox0Bn0-fcF4Qc&usp=sharing
