15/5/21 Geraldton Marbles

Our big move saw us go to Geraldton CP , which is also on the north side of Geraldton , but about 1klm from the highway and much quieter !! We stayed here for another week , time spent doing some M&R on the van , going for bike rides in town and checking out Gero's marbles .  This photo is looking back toward the port from Bluff Point - a very popular beach with stand up paddle boarders - it does get some wave action , it was just very flat this day .

This is Geraldton's 3rd marble , only being in place since early last year when the foreshore works were being done .

This one is the 2nd marble , and it rotates in a film of water - same as the one in Bowrals main street

Here's some of the industrial look structures in place along the foreshore , some have a roof , others not , but there were usually seats and tables . Breakwalls have been constructed to give a nice swimming area . Bike and walk tracks have been built as well - 6m wide !!

Another day we headed east out of town to Bringo Lookout - this is looking back toward Geraldton direction . A train line runs to the left and the Geraldton Mt Magnet Rd runs to the right .

Further along the road we turned off the main road and headed north into wheat farming areas - and here tucked away in a little valley are Gerladtons original marbles . There's a lookout - under constant surveillance - that lets you look at these large golf balls and satellite dishes . It's part of the Australian Defence Satellite Communications Station . There's 5 domes and 4 satellite dishes and lots of buildings . This is about a close as you can get without being arrested .

Driving around toward Narra Tarra , we got to see them all , well 4 & a half domes anyway .

Another sunset or 2 and the week was over , after a couple of attempts to play golf and some jobs taken care of it was time to head inland to catch up with some friends .

Forgot to mention Kalbarri - it was smashed by the cyclone , with 70% of houses having mild to major damage . Kalbarri has been closed to visitors untill last week , reopening to people who have bookings to stay there - we chose not to go out there , they need time to recover from the heartache and emotional damage that's been done . Yes they need tourists and money coming back into the businesses there , we'll let them rebuild and recover before we revisit .
