Leaving Coober Pedy , we head south and stop for an overnighter near a radio aerial . Just a driving day today ,
Next day we headed toward Lake Hart , a large salt lake that had a large free camping area - that was years ago - now it's not so large and very popular . We arrived and parked like we might stay , then had lunch . While we ate , 3 other vans arrived and all parked up , then a few more . After lunch we moved the van down into the parking area close to the walking track down to the lake , then went for a walk down to the railway line near the edge of the lake .

The lake disappears into the distance , you can see the other side but it's a long way over . The Ghan train travels this route regularly , we have managed to see it a couple of times during our drive south .

Time for some drone shots to give you an idea of the size and colours .

After making our way back to the ute , we decided we wouldn't stay here overnight - far too busy for us!!
Heading down the highway , we found another lookout over Island Lagoon salt lake There was nobody else here , admittedly it was pretty open , on top of a hill and close to the road , but we had it to ourselves .
This was our piece of rock & dirt for the night . Island Lagoon is another huge salt lake that stretches a long way as well - it's about 3 times bigger than Lake Hart !
This is the view from the lake side , as you can see there's next to no vegetation higher then a metre , it is such a barren looking area .
After a peaceful night , we drove down and took the turnoff to Woomera . There have been signs at various places saying it's commonwealth territory , and no camping allowed , except in certain spots . Woomera township is very neat & tidy and still looked after by the airforce . There's a great display of rockets and planes . They used to test fly rockets etc here back in the day , and still have a presence today .
