11/5/17 Rain , rain , & more rain

After a very wet day at Kilcoy , we head to the coast . The weather was the exact opposite of yesterday - blue skies & sunshine - hooray !!
With the rain falling constantly yesterday , we didn’t accomplish much more than a drive around Kilcoy . It’s a larger town than first appearances show , with lots of older timber houses , a bowling club and a golf club , as well as a large abattoir , one supermarket & many smaller shops . For the campers among us , there are 2 free camps in town and paid camping at the showground/racecourse where we are . Somerset Dam isn’t far away , it flows down to Wivenhoe Dam then onwards to Brisbane .

Moving day today , there is a race meeting at the racecourse tomorrow , so we cant stay any longer . So off we go down to the coast - hopefully for some warmer weather .
The drive was largely uneventful , traffic increased as we started to head north on the Bruce Hwy , and then increased more as we turned into Nambour .
We haven’t been in Nambour for 6 or 7 years , hmmm hasn’t it grown and the traffic increased as well . We needed some cash for our camp spot and a few items of food , so visited Aldi to take care of both . That was easy , now to get back out of town . Nambour is a town built on hills and most roads are going up or down , and when you’re trying to turn around with a 5th wheeler , it can be a bit hit and miss , you dont want to go down a street that is a dead end , or has low trees etc . Driving up the hill , a street went to our left and downhill , as we went down it got narrower , more trees , before going around another corner - not knowing where we were headed didn’t really help , but I kept going . The road came back round and started to go back up hill again , fortunately , the bad part was we came up to a stop sign - we were still facing uphill , with a 4.45tonne 5th wheeler behind us , fortunately for us there was a gap in the traffic , and after what might not necessarily qualify as a stop in the true sense of the word , we shuddered out onto the road - think I might have shortened the life of the clutch a little !! Back through several sets of traffic lights and we were out of town - that’s a relief !!
Down the road a bit further we turn off into Cooroy - an RV friendly town !! We drove through the main street , finding the library and some caravan parking - one space , and the caravan would have to be about 2m long to fit into it !!!!! Through the carpark and there’s a turning circle , for pretty much cars and box trailers - after a 5 point turn and driving over rocks & the edge of the concrete driveway , we made it back out to the road - RV friendly - hardly !!! We then found the RV friendly 72hr free camp spot - it was good , plenty of room - we may come back here next week .
Our camp spot for the next few nights is beside Lake Macdonald  , that was easy , finding it however wasn’t , we drove down the right roads - according to the maps on our phones & the GPS- the reality was however somewhat different . Stopping on a side road to check where we were was a smart move , a car pulled up beside us and asked where we were going , then proceeded to tell us the directions - back almost into Cooroy , turn left , left again , past the lake twice , then another left  , along a bit further near some water tanks , another left onto a dirt road and we were almost there !!   We had to stop at some road works , and all but forgot all the directions in the 10 minute stop !! Somehow we managed to get there , the last turn was a hairpin that required some backing and slight jack knifing to get around - what an afternoon !!!
Well after all that we are set up with lake views - not so bad after all !

In the park is a tree with yellow flowers all over it - this is it -

 Okay , it’s been a while , here’s a sunset photo or 2 hahaha
