13/5/17 Lookouts , lakes & gardens

Bit windy this morning , so going for a paddle on the lake was out , so we head toward Noosa . Just down the road a little was a lookout sign , obviously it was there for us , so off we went . It turned out to be a kilometre hike up & back , some steps , mainly paths & some rock shelf to walk over . Mt Tinbeerwah is between Cooroy and Tewantin , and is 239m tall , there are also somw cliff faces that are popular for abseiling - there are 20 anchor points located at differing heights on the way up . At the top is a large shelter and 360 degree views from the hinterland to the coast .

This one is Noosa Heads and Noosa River

These are a couple of small houses on Cooroy Mountain .

After talking to a couple as we walked back down , we headed to Boreen Point on Lake Cootharaba , north of Tewantin . The lake is only 3 to 4 feet deep , but is fairly large . Arriving in town we find a very quiet little town , with a lot of holiday houses and a small caravan park , a few shops & cafes as well . The wind was quite brisk and creating a lot of waves , so we drove around to find a sheltered spot for lunch , even the pelicans thought it was too windy , sheltering on a jetty .

After some lunch we headed back west to Pomona , another small town that sits below Mt Cooroora . You can climb up to the top , it would be a strenuous walk though , the mountain is 495m above sea level , and all sides are steep !!

From here we headed back to Cooroy , there were 2 ways - the main road , and another that followed the train track , we chose the train track . All was going well , there was a bit of water lying around , but still good till we got to nearly the other end . A long section of muddy water covered the track , rather than getting stuck in the middle or worse - getting the ute dirty !!!! we turned and headed back and went the main road back .
Back in Cooroy , we then headed down to Noosa Botanic Garden , which is beside Lake Macdonald . While it isn’t the best time of year to be visiting , there were plenty of plants & trees still flowering , here’s a selection of them , as well as the amphitheatre .

The last 2 are from the Tulip Tree , these are the buds that open to a fist sized flower .
