3/8/17 Different directions

Wednesday arrived and we said farewell to Maree & Kevin - they are heading south , we're heading north .
The drive north was great , the road wasn't busy on the northbound side , southbound however was quite busy . This part of the coast is quite picturesque , with mountains on one side and the coast not too far away , islands appearing like mountain ranges , more sugarcane & pineapples being grown .
Arriving at Ingham , we stopped at TYTO - the wetland & information centre - there's 120 hectares of wetland to look through , paths , bird hides and some elevated walkways and a cafe / restaurant . This weekend they are having an Italian festival so accomodation choices were a bit limited - we were going to stay here , but kept going to Cardwell - another 49 klms up the road . I was expecting some mail at Ingham PO , but it hasn't arrived yet , we will check again on Friday .
Cardwell has Hinchinbrook Island sitting just to the southeast of town - it's a huge island , and generally there's cloud on the high peaks .

 Thursday

After breakfast we headed out to the beach on our bikes to take advantage of the bike track that runs alongside the beach and nearly out to the marina . The tide was going out showing off the mudflats just outside the sand - doesn't make for a particularly nice beach , but you're not going to be swimming here anyway due to the large lizards with big teeth !!

It does look very tropical though .

There's a pier halfway along the beach , very popular with fishermen/women , it's also a good vantage point to watch out for turtles and other marine life .

The esplanade has been done very well , this is the park near the pier .

This is the beach on the northern side .

The pylons of the pier support a large population of oysters , making for interesting shapes .

I couldn't resist taking a panoramic photo with the phone , it turned out very well .

Back to the van for a Bbq lunch , and friends we met at Marble Bar last year arrived , so the afternoon was spent sitting and chatting . Here's a map link :- https://drive.google.com/open?id=10VNJjK7UPpwtAGqkwS1drEMcXyQ&usp=sharing
