14/4/18 Big Smoke Part 3 and beyond

Having left Sydney for Wollongong , it was time to catch up with family & friends , and our old favourite dentist . After my first of 3 appointments we headed around to catch up with Lyn's sister Elly . Catching up with them again for a great Bbq another night .
We caught up with good friends John & Leonie ( also new grandparents - we have so much in common )and Keith & Sue on separate occasions , I managed to play golf with Keith on several days as well .
After Easter it was back to Sydney to spend some more time with our grand daughter - and parents of course !!
We did manage to get a few jobs done , 4 new tyres , some lights and had a few days to ourselves . On one occasion we headed into the city on the train , getting off at Milsons Point . After a short walk  we'd arrived below the northern road approaches to the bridge , giving us new views of the bridge and it's construction .

Not too far away is one of the most recognisable features - Luna Park of course .

The glass windows on the right hand side are from the North Sydney Olympic Pool - would be a good view out over the harbour .
Continuing on our walk , we went back under the bridge towards Kirribilli , with views over to the city & Opera House .

Views to the east are to the prime ministers residence and some of the outbuildings , pool house etc .

Poor hard done by things they are , it would be tough to have views like this !!

With that , we wandered back up the hill and up the steps to the roadway - time to wander across to the city . We have gone across the bridge by car & train , flown over in jets and helicopters , climbed the bridge as well , and now by foot !! Views are good from 100+metres above the water , and much better than the bridge climb as you can stop and take photos anytime you like !!

A small cruiseship was in residence , dwarfing everything else nearby .

The older section of The Rocks shows some impressive architecture .

Before long we'd reached the end of our trip across the bridge and we crossed underneath and found the Sydney Observatory where we sat & had some lunch . Views from here were also suitably impressive .

The observatory building impressive as well .

The grounds can be rented out for wedding photography , and there were a few couples there - at $100 for 15 minutes you would hope the photographer works fast !!!

Leaving the grounds via a set of steps down to the streets below , we found a lookout over the Barangaroo development - most of which is a construction site , so instead of photos of that , here's some of the housing nearby .

From here we wandered back to Wynyard Station - after all of the impressive things we saw today , along come what I described as the ugliest building in Sydney - a different colour may have helped .

The day as a good one , seeing parts of Sydney we hadn't seen before .
After another couple of days with the kids , it was time to hit the road again- school holidays were approaching fast !!  But before we went we caught up with Suzie & Colin for a great meal & night chatting & laughing .
After some farewells we parted company with Sydney and found ourselves back in the wide open spaces again . Two days later we found this guy - just another one of those big things !!

What more can we say , we are camped beside the Bogan River - they even have crocs here !!

So there you have it , back on the track again and in for some sights we have not yet seen .
Might even be a few more blogs to come as well !!
