The starting point

4/9/18 Roll it & fold it

Yes , been a bit slack , but here goes . We headed out to Cleaverville again , this time with lunch and the drone !! The day was sensational , weather excellent and the wind was very light - perfect conditions .
It took about 25mins to drive out and we headed to the boat ramp , then around to the rocky point where we parked . Heading off for a walk , we noticed a track to the top of the hill between us and the boat ramp , so we went up there for a great view over the estuary & mangroves .

Down to the point an over some very rough rocks , views were back to Hearsons Cove and the Ammonium Nitrate factory .

There are several low islands not far off the coast .

After negotiating some more of the roughest , rocky foreshore , I got the drone out for a couple of photos .

In the next photo , the camping areas are off in the distance .

From here we headed to the picnic area , which was also on a nice little bay , and a sandy beach . There were still plenty of rocks though , and more rock shelves out in the water .

The drone got another outing , the roof is the cover over the picnic tables .

After lunch we followed the track along the coast to another small very rocky bay , and what a surprise we got when we got there . This is an area with amazing geology , the rocks are layered , different colours , some look like concrete slurry with rock aggregate , and the overall ruggedness of this coastline has to be seen to be believed .

These rocks would rival the jasper at Marble Bar , maybe not quite as colourful , but similar in size . After scrambling over it , beside it and around it , and just marvelling at it's creation , we headed back after a great day out .

Time has come for us to fly back to Perth to house and dog sit for a week & a bit . The flight down was really good till we got past half way and the cloud started to close in ruining the view . The start of the flight was interesting as we took off , the view is over the Rio Tinto Salt Works ( there's a lot more of it to the left of the photo ) and up the Burrup Peninsular .

As we climbed higher , our flight headed south over the Hammersley Ranges . Views of the ranges and the hundreds of creek/river beds was amazing . Like tendrils reaching out to all corners , the creek beds ran in all directions .

Arriving in Perth to overcast skies was a bit underwhelming , but it was great to see Emma & Pepper when they pulled up to get us . Pepper ( Emma's dog ) went nuts and it took a while before she settled down . We chatted all the way to the house , but the weather continued to decline and we ended up with some rain . The winter here in WA has been their wettest and coldest in about 18 years - Lucky us !!
Fortunately it did improve but that was only for a day or so . While the weather was good we took Pepper for a walk into the bushland at the end of the street , wildflowers were coming out everywhere  , this first one looks great , but has the worst scent - a bit like some sewer pipes had cracked !!

This one has the smallest flowers and fortunately no scent .

There were groups of flowers as we walked , depending on their location and how protected they were and which part of the hill they were on , there were many different varieties .

On Sunday we headed down to Waroona , about 60klms away . The couple that we went up to Cape York with last year also live here , so we decided to call in and see them - they weren't home so we went out to Drakesbrook Weir , which is also part of the local water supply , and is a very popular place with picnic areas and spots to fish .

We caught up with Mick & Sue briefly before we headed out to Waroona Dam - it is connected to Drakesbrook Weir as well . There are numerous camp sites at the dam , with tracks going all over the place . It's quite an attraction at the moment - the spillway is overflowing - not much , but the dam is full - people are coming out to see the water flowing down the spillway because they've never seen it overflowing before !!

Wattle is out flowering at the moment and looks spectacular .

Beside the road was another small flowering bush .

We headed back , another day done .
The weather has been cold & wet , ranging from 10 degrees up to 19 one day , usually 16-17 . Our time was spent in jeans & jumpers - the ugg boots even got a run - must say we didn't enjoy the cold at all and haven't missed it one bit !!
Emma & Mike arrived back at midnight one night so we had a midnight trip to the airport to get them .
Our time was up and we flew back north again , the cloud seemed to disappear at the same spot as when we came down . Here's the view of another part of the salt works and Dampier .

The strip of land near the wing tip is actually Dampier Highway ( 4 lane hwy ) and also the rail link for Rio Tinto's iron ore loader .

After getting back to the van and enjoying the warmth , we headed down to shop before relaxing . The park is really empty and usually closes on the 1st September , we went to move over to the other park , but they rang us and told us to stay there as the other park was booked out , we ended up having about 6 other vans over night . That was one of our shortest moves - out the gate onto the road , turn around and come back in . With that we decided to move to another site for a few days . What happens when you set yourself up somewhere - along comes someone who decides to park right beside you - they only had about 120 other sites to choose from !!!

Temperatures are starting to warm up , days are going to the high 20's & low 30's , nights down to 13 -14 .
The time has come for us to move on , so keep tuned in for more to come . Cheers .
