17/8/19 Cool water & little things

Leaving Carnarvon and heading into a headwind as well , certainly didn't help the fuel economy , but when you have to go , you have to go .
White flowers were starting to carpet the red earth after the turnoff to Shark Bay , making the scenery change regularly - almost like snow . White everlasting daisies are in their thousands at the moment .

Arriving near our free camp at Galena Bridge we discovered a lot more flowers , pink & yellow as well as the white .

Some areas were carpeted in them .

Galena Bridge is situated on the Murchison River that flows through Kalbarri NP , here's the old and new bridges .

After a chilly night at the river we headed into Kalbarri , managing to find a spot at the riverside park - everywhere else was full !! Still we did get a spot for 3 nights , so all's good .
Getting in before lunch was a bonus and gave us the afternoon to go for a drive and a walk . Heading out to the coastal park was the go and Eagle Gorge was the destination .
On previous visits we've usually been too late to see any Murchison Roses , today however we found some . This is the bush , and there's plenty of older flowers on there , withered and drying out .

With a bit more of a look , you can find some fresh ones hiding here & there - this is it .

Arriving at the lookout we found there's  a track down to the beach at the bottom , so what else would you do on a lovely afternoon but go for a walk down . Not a very large beach , and definitely not for swimming , a small steeply sloping area of sand is surrounded by rock shelves .

Occasionally there's a large wave that comes in and surprises you , this was one of them . You wouldn't want to be swept into this , I'm sure you'd be ripped apart by the rocks .

Wind & erosion has formed amazing shapes in the layered sandstone .

Looks nice & calm now , we did enjoy sitting & watching the waves & water , good for the soul .

Wildflowers are coming more & more as each day progresses , most are rather small , probably to protect themselves from the constant barrage of wind and direct sunlight . here's a selection of them .

These ones are very small , you can see grains of sand in the background .

These are almost metallic in colour & shine .

The biggest were the coastal pigface flower .

The sloping sections of the cliffs are carpeted as well .

A pod of dolphins joined us for a while while we watched from above .

This flower looked like it was stuck to the vegetation , until we got back and had a look at the photo on the laptop - it's quite stunning when you enlarge it .

 A tiny everlasting daisy .

Not sure what sort of butterfly this caterpillar will turn into , but it was good to watch as well .

You can see the grains of sand in this photo - not a large flower at all .
