2/9/21 Back to reality

Okay , we've been to the some of the best Australia has to offer on our cruise , but like most good things ,  they tend to end . Back in Derby , we were tasked with getting the van and moving onto site for the night . Lyn wasn't having the best day , waking with a large headache - I'm assured it wasn't me - and wasn't a happy camper on the helicopter flight , and the plane ride back to Derby . She slept / snoozed to off that night and woke up fine the next morning . I had some dinner with Archie & Karen and Joe & Elissa - our fellow cruisers - down at the pub in Derby .
Next morning we packed up and headed to Broome for 4 days , so that I could pick up my new batteries for the drone , before we start heading slowly south .
We caught up with friends that wanted to hear about the cruise , so over a Bbq dinner at Gantheaume Point Beach , we chatted as the sun disappeared over the horizon .

At this time of year in Broome there is the local pearling festival - Shinju Matsuri . Part of that was the floating of lanterns off the beach near Gantheaume Point .We'd forgotten just how busy that is , they close off the beach and you have to park beside the road and walk down - when we arrived , it would have been a 500m walk to the road to the beach , so we headed around to a nice quiet spot on a pindan cliff overlooking Reddell Beach and around to Gantheaume Point Lighthouse , and sat there with a beer & some nibbles for sundown . This Brahminy Kite was flying around keeping an eye on us .

This is our view over to Reddell Beach just as the sun was making it all glow .

Next event we went to , was the opening of the new street art in one of the roundabouts in Chinatown . Another event we didn't really know about , we just seemed to fall into it . Driving around checking out the new streetlights , we came around the corner to find a few hundred people in the street beside the new street art - there was music & singers and a bit of information being given out over the loud speakers . Apparently this design incorporates a bit of everything about Broome and it's history . The top of the structure is actually resembling the stairway to the moon - it was full moon tonight and if you could get around the crowds you could see the moon come up through the middle and create a stairway ( upside down )

The new streetlights are a bit special as well , below the actual light is a light panel with different symbols etc on them - here's some of them .

Meanwhile the moon did come up , and I got a half decent photo of it .

Another new sculpture is nearly complete down near the old jetty , it's about 5m tall and has connection to the pearlers and the indigenous .

We also caught up with Peter & Tina and showed then the photo's from the cruise . They'd done a cruise up to where we went and were interested to see the other spots they didn't go to , we then went and had a lovely curry with them .
All to soon , our time in Broome came to an end , and we headed south to Barn Hill Station - yes again , there'll be more to come . Bye for now .
