8/9/21 Barn Hill again

Off to BarnHill Station again , we arrived and set up , after an uneventful drive from Broome . It has calmed down here as well , with plenty of vacant sites for us to choose from .
Lunch taken care of , so we headed to the beach for a walk and swim - a small shark scooted out beside us as we went in for a swim , it was a wobbygong so no threat to us.
It is a neap tide at the moment , meaning there is very little difference between high & low - it stays this way for a few days before returning to normal 8&9m differences between high & low tides . Caught up with a Swiss couple we met here last year - they've spent winter here !
Next day we headed up the beach , taking the drone for it's first run with new batteries - certainly flies longer with the new ones installed , got to be happy with that .
There was some sea fog this morning , and it had cleared toward the northern headland .

Here's a drones eye view of it .

Did some flying around the rock columns for some different views .

This is another view of behind the beach .

I mentioned the tides , this is from a few days later at a high tide of 8.5m .

Same tide but showing the headland and rock pools ( below water line ) .

And this one is low tide of 1m , bit of a difference !!

Phantom rock stackers have been at it again .

These low tides have let us explore more of the rocks & pools exposed at low tide , lots of shells of all shapes

This is one of the many rock pools - this one is very small .

In some of the rock pools there was coral growing , there was green , red , purple , brown & blue in varying types of coral .

Another day I walked up the beach to let Lyn have some piece & quiet when she had a headache and wasn't feeling great .
There's quite a curve in the beach when looking back toward the camping area .

Around the small rocky outcrop further up the beach , I climbed up to check it all out , finding this hole that's about 1.2m wide in the sandstone . If you zoom in you can see all the different layers .

Back on the sand and I found this smaller hole going into the one in the last photo , you can see the different layers in this one .

The ocean was very calm and crystal clear , time to get Lyn and go in for a swim - and wasn't that nice , the water was beautiful .

It wouldn't be Barn Hill without a sunset or 2 haha .

The pindan cliffs here really glow in the sun , and the contrasting colours just make it even better !

They glow even more at sunset .

Mulla Mulla are still growing happily .

The beach & cliffs change as the sun goes down and the light changes .

All too quickly another week has passed and it was time to pack up and leave , unfortunately for us the wind has been strong for the last 4 days which has made it a little uncomfortable. We packed up and went for a last walk along the beach before heading off - probably not the best choice as it was blowing hard . The beach took on an orange tinge from all the wind blown sand & dirt from above the beach .

Leaving one of our favourite places , we headed out onto the highway and headed back south . The drive again was uneventful - which is always good ! We went further than we'd planned to , and decided to stop in a new spot - it's called Paperbarks - for obvious reasons . In the next photo , you can see a track off the highway - we came from the right hand side and turned in , finding this motorhome with a trailer on , parked on the track - sticks and rocks placed neatly over the track , blocking it off , He'd even put a wheel clamp on the trailer so no-one would steal it during the day or night??? I went for a walk past looking to see if there was a way round and if any other idiots were parked on the track . He said to me " there's plenty of spots further up " to which I replied " that's great , but you've blocked the track " . Finding there was other spots to stop was great , next problem was getting around him . I carefully removed the sticks and rocks from the track as we had to drive right up to the back of his trailer , so that we could reverse back into a spot to go beside him - it's a bit hard to do a 90 degree turn with 16m of ute & van , it would have been worse to reverse back out onto the highway ! I hope he felt my dislike of him as we squeezed past over some flattened bushes and found a spot further up .

Lyn ended up reversing into this spot that we had to ourselves .

The landscape up this stretch of highway is pretty featureless and flat !

We managed to clean some of the dust & pindan off both the ute and van with a bucket of soapy water , making it look like someone does love it .

After a quiet night we headed out again toward DeGrey River Rest Area for another night before going into Port Hedland on friday .
