9/8/24 Guildford UK

Our time in Germany ended and we flew back to London , ready to do some grand sitting while Justin & Taylor were at work . What with days off and Isla needing some home time , we had her for a few days, to take some strain off . We went down to Woking Park one day and , down to the Indoor pools at the rec centre , the next day .

Another day Justin had to take Taylor to an appointment , so Isla decided she would go as well . We decided to get on the train and go to Guildford for a look around . It's only a 10 min train ride , and we were there before we knew it . Walking from the station to High St we came across this church - choose your poison - theirs a pub to the left and another across the lane !!

High St is a quaint street , and has the majority of it blocked off and used as a pedestrian mall .

Further up the road is more great architecture - we are enjoying this .

Further up is the Guild Hall , used by the mayor now , it used to be a courthouse in the past . There's a young lady out the front , under a parasol , singing for anyone who wanted to listen . The bracket clock is amazing - it has 1683 displayed on the base - making it 341 years old !!

We got a spinach & ricotta roll and a sausage roll for lunch - both were served at room temperature , a bit strange !!
Over to the castle for a look , but first the bowling green was being used by the locals for a womens match . The bowling green is located behind a D Day memorial and has one large square green , and another smaller one - that runs at 90 degrees to the main green  .

There are numerous very well maintained garden beds here

   Here's the bowling green .

These 3 gents were looking on intently .

Looking across the green , the castle catches your eyes , and yes you can go in for a look .

The path from the bowling green goes down to the lower gardens and under the footpath and down through a winding path to the gardens .

This is one small section of the lower gardens around the castle .

Same garden from the other end .

The castle wasn't terribly remarkable , but we went up for a look anyway , before heading back to get the train . Another nice day out . Here's a map link :- https://www.google.com/maps/d/edit?mid=1auHOMnzM_uNRTCMN3pQYEPdbu6bvLdM&usp=sharing
