Work & Play

Yesterday was the start of the maintenance cycle , clearing our list of problems one by one , some really quick , others a bit slower . We had some bent bolts on the stabiliser legs that took some thought from Garry and myself , to come up with a solution that worked for us . We got the two back ones completed and decided it was time to go for a paddle - it was Tuesday and that's when Garry paddles , and it would be nice to get out on the water .
The spot to put in the water , is at the rowing / canoe club , just of the main street of Lismore - onto the Wilson River . It had a reasonable flow going with all the rain they have been having up here - you could see the mud levels higher up the bank and debris caught in the trees on the banks of the river . Trees were falling into the river due to the moisture content of the soil , rather than the floodwaters .
Garry suggested we head off up the river , and he would catch up with us - he is a very experienced paddler , with many years spent kayaking , and he was in a very slick , and very fast kayak - he slowed it down a bit by tying a rope around the kayak , making it a bit more of a workout for him . We made it about two & a half kms before he caught us - we were happy with that !! Continuing on for a bit further - further than we had been up this river before - we turned and headed back , Garry kept going for another kilometre or so , then turned and chased us again . He had given us some paddling tips on the way up , so we tried them out - it was a bit of a giggle here and a laugh there , but we got up and got a good head of steam up - he caught us again about 500m from the canoe club .
There was quite a bit of floating debris coming down the river - my ever vigilant navigator in the front seat kept me informed so that we could divert if necessary - suddenly she shouted " rock " , all I could see was a branch floating toward us , we had a bit of a giggle about that one for a while !!!
Back to the RV and prepared for some entertaining - Garry and Kelly , were coming for drinks & nibbles and a good chat . The evening was great , with funny conversations , serious conversations , and a good night was had by all , they left about 9pm .
The down side of staying here is it is more industrial , and there are units beside us that start work at 6 to 6:30am , and there isn't a lot of insulation to block the noise down - that's okay though , we seem to be going to sleep earlier to compensate .
More work done today , we will be finished tomorrow , and on the move again on Friday .
Here are some random photos from Tasmania .
