5/10/16 A walk in the gardens

We are still here , just a little bit quieter at the moment . Golf has taken over a bit , I'm playing every 3rd day in an attempt to get back to how I used to play , before the Masters Games start on sunday . Good news - - my last game was close to my best !!
We've been doing some bike riding and swimming , today we went for a wander through the botanic garden - it's not quite the same as Darwin's , just a tad drier !!
There are still some plants flowering , but the majority of the wildflowers seem to have finished , here are some of them .

Heading off from the cafe , we walked up the Annie Meyer Hill to get the views from the top . It wasn't the easiest walk - we've been on easier Grade 4 walks in National Parks !! The steps were uneven and different heights , rough rocky tracks through a stoney landscape . The rocks are interesting though , some sections have a lot of Mica in them , it looks like spots of silver all through the rock .

The rock is mainly quartzite and looks quite amazing , there are veins of white quartz running through it as well .

The views from the top were good , and gave us another perspective of town and outlying areas .

Looking out to the the West Macdonnell Ranges .

 Heavitree Gap

Anzac Hill

Back down the hill , we wandered around some of the tracks , but it was dry and in need of some attention . There is an art installation -- a door frame made from railway sleepers , with the old rail pins attached - it too is in need of some attention to stop it from falling over .

A lorikeet flew into a wattle tree in front of us , posing for a few photos .

Back to the park for some lunch and a swim , then a relaxed afternoon doing very little .
Golf again tomorrow for a last practice before the games , opening ceremony on Friday , and it all begins on Saturday for some sports , golf starts Sunday . There's a huge range of sports involved - table tennis , hockey , cricket , lawn bowls , darts , track & field , walking , running , archery , swimming & equestrian - there may be a few more that I've missed .
  Back soon !!
