8/10/16 Let the games begin

After a pretty hot day , we headed in to town for the opening ceremony and athletes march into Anzac Oval .
34 degrees during the day and only 19% humidity meant it was hot & dry - probably drier than we've been used to in the past . You dehydrate much quicker and don't really notice it !!!
We headed down to the bus stop , and found 3 cars there - apparently they've been waiting for a bus for an hour , so decided to drive in instead - they even fitted us in their cars as well - there was 6 of us!!! Kym & Caroline & Garry & Kaylee .
After parking , we walked up to Todd Mall where the march was starting and were amazed at how many people were there lined up & ready to go . People were in groups & teams , in fancy dress and team uniforms , getting right into the spirit of it - it was an awesome display !!

We followed alongside till we arrived at Anzac Oval - a football field and oval set up for the rather large opening ceremony / party . There is a stage where the officials welcomed everyone and declared the games open . Patron of the event , Dawn Fraser , was there , Honorary Games Ambassador  Daryl Sommers , the NT Chief minister was also in attendance .

The event was officially opened and then the fireworks started - an impressive display !!

With that finished the concert started with a cover band singing a lot of popular songs , before a break , then Wilbur Wilde and his band and Wendy Stapelton .
There were thousands of people there , food & drink & merchandise stalls , everyone was having a ball !!

Eventually we got the free bus back to the park - he dropped us off at the front gate !!

Some games had already commenced , a lot of running events started in the early morning , clay target shooting also , some golf and darts - probably a few other events as well .

9/10/16
Golf for me started today - it was a pairs event to start off with . The temperature today was forecast to get to 38 degrees . It was breezy all day , fortunately , as the breeze helped make it feel a little cooler - it only got to 36 degrees !!
The good news - I played to my handicap , and as a team we finished in 5th , I played with a gent from Australind ( near Bunbury in WA ) .
Now after a very nice shower and tea , I am struggling to stay awake , so that's it for today - see ya !
