4&5/10/17 At the dam

Time had come to move on from Charters Towers , with the weather getting hotter we elected to go south rather than west .
The road down was great in places and terrible in others - whenever you get into floodplain areas the road gets terrible - undulations , the road falling apart , ensuring that you slow down to safely travel along it .
We drove down to Clermont and then out to Theresa Creek Dam for a couple of nights beside the water .
Much to our surprise , we found we could have a site near the water with our own double garage sized carport !! We didn't have power or water , but that wasn't a problem - there were showers & toilets on site .

A quiet afternoon was had , caught up with a couple from Kiama who we met at Charters , then we relaxed with a drink before the sun set on another day .

Awake with the birds , we had breakfast and hit the water . This dam isn't large , but there's plenty of room to go paddling . We headed across the dam , past the dam wall on the left , finding plenty of pelicans & cormorants , and a few Jacana's .

Another hazard we found was cattle - they were out in the water chewing away at the lily pads .

The lily pads were all different sizes .

We'd been told about some extra large flowers down the northern end of the dam where the creek comes in , so we headed up that way , it was also getting hot so we wet our shirts to keep ourselves cool . Passing more birds , this pelican not looking so happy .

Before too much longer we started to see some larger flowers , so we paddled through the pads to get to them . You can see bees flying around and also in the middle of the flower , that gives you a sense of how large the flowers are .

The water was getting narrower as we headed up the creek and reflections were great .

We found some more wildlife as well ,

The creek was getting smaller & smaller .

Not much further up , we found the end , a mere trickle coming in , not enough to paddle in so we stopped for a break .

Back down the creek again , here's the same trees from the other side .

We headed out into the dam again and went across to the swimming beach near the boat ramp for a refreshing swim - water temperature was a very civilised 26 degrees , but cooler in the deeper water . We paddled back over to the marina - another boat ramp area closer to the van , and got out & cleaned up after a great paddle & swim .

After some lunch we had a casual walk around to the dam wall , stopping for another swim along the way . Here's the dam wall .

This was the view from the ski club grounds , across to the main boat ramp .

We joined some others for afternoon drinks , they are here to catch red claw yabbies , sometimes successfully , others not so .
 That's our stay at the dam , here's a map link :- https://drive.google.com/open?id=1s1xvFcbke4aws7aaJ0WUoi7ypbg&usp=sharing
