15/4/19 Around Albany , Fans & Lights

Today we headed back out to Torndirrup NP again to check out the wind farm . First impressions were Wow , there are 18 turbines perched on top of the sand dunes west of Albany , 1 is out of service at the moment . There's a viewing platform and another lookout a short walk away , the first viewing platform gives you a different view as you are nearly the same height as some of the turbines  - most wind farm lookouts you are looking up and are spread out a long way , this seemed closer . As a side note , they predict that there's only 7 days each year that these turbines don't turn due to lack of wind - mind you they can generate electricity in only 7km/hr winds .

The second , and higher lookout has views back over to Albany and the port .

There's also a 15 min loop walk you can do , that takes you down closer to the top of the dunes , it links up with the Bibbulmun Track - it runs all the way from Albany to Perth - 1,003 kms of it - it's a walking / hiking track . This is it .

On part of the loop walk we found a line of hairy grubs doing their best impression of a snake .

The Bibbulmun Track would have some of the best views of this section of the coastline . There's also access down to the beach - down a series of steps , that's a lot of steps - definitely get the heart rate up on the way back up .

Back into town we decided to go to the information centre - bugger - it moved from the old railway station building up to the library beside the Town Hall - here's the Town Hall .

Some more Silo Art here as well - a Leafy Sea Dragon depicted on these .

We then headed around to Emu Park and went to The Squid Shed - they sell fish & chips & it's one of the best - we were here 3yrs ago and it was excellent , today was no different , still excellent !!
We had some salt & pepper squid , 3 pieces of fish and a serve of chips - all of which were more than enough for the 2 of us .
After an easy afternoon we headed back into town & up to the Field of Light exhibition - it has been set up by the same artist that did the field of lights at Uluru . The light installation is either side of the Avenue of Honour on the road up to Mt Clarence .
There are 2 rows of gum trees either side of the road and the space between the trees has been filled full of lights , all attached to optical fibre . It stretched for about 400m either side of the road .

It certainly attracted a lot of people and was open every night from 5:30pm to 10pm . It is closing soon 28/4/19 will be the last night , it's been running for the last 12 months and is free of charge .

Next day we caught up with a few jobs that required doing , then we had a little drive around to Kalgan River . There's a gravel road that follows the river for about 5 klms to where a walking track starts . The track goes to the village of Kalgan , we followed it for about 500m .

There's a sculpture of a Kingfisher around one corner of the river - it's about 20m across !!

From there we headed back & over to Ledge Point , this is Skippy's Beach . It's located in Gull Rock NP , and as with most beaches in WA is accessible by 4wd .

Plenty of tyre tracks down on the beach .
