Finally got our new solar panels , so it was time to go to our friends at Byford to get them installed . Fortunately they had a shed and any extra tools I may need , plus it was a nice week spent with lovely people . We got the old panels off - it was a 2 man job to peel them off the roof - they were stuck directly to the roof , then cleaned the remaining butyl mastic type adhesive from the roof before positioning the new panels and getting them connected . The new ones also are stuck to the roof . This is what the five old ones look like .
And this is what the new ones look like , quite a difference !! and some hard work to do it all . Then after we did that we washed the van & ute and polished the roof !! as if we hadn't done enough - the wrists & elbows let us know all about it for several days/weeks later !
While having breakfast or lunch outside the van , we were visited by these Bronzewing pigeons , it was hard to get a photo of them and their irradescent wings that shone in the sun , the crown of their head also glowing . He looks a bit angry in this one .
But not so angry here .
With our work done and some help with other things in & around the workshop , we headed off for another few days at Pinjarra , before going down to Waroona to visit Mick & Sue , who we went to Cape York with in 2017 . Arriving early , we were ushered into their car and away we went to go crabbing . It was quite enjoyable , Mick has a new boat and it is super comfortable with a larger engine . The crabs must have known we were coming as we got our quota of 20 in 3 runs . We had a bit of a run down the estuary looking for dolphins - we found one !! But on the cruise back we found about 10 , and they were happy to interact with us , swimming under the boat , beside us , then as we started to leave they joined us playing in the wake of the boat , even jumping out of the water on several occasions - no photos or video because we were too mesmerised by them !!
This was our view across to the golf course next morning .
After another hot day spent swimming and playing card games and a dice game , we were greeted with this sunset over the back fence .
Only a short stop this time , we left Mick & Sue's to head down to Lake Preston Lime campground . It is a working limestone plant , as well as a firewood operation . It's located beside Lake Preston and has it's own runway for aircraft . It's a little bit eccentric , there's a small yacht high & dry beside a small dam , a small plane painted bright yellow standing on it's nose .
Then there's this small tug boat ( minus the cabin roof ) perched nowhere near the water .
Then there's this DC 3 just in front of the house
And this is the campground ( or part of it ) , the runway to the right - we hadn't seen this much green grass for quite a while !!
You can walk down to the lake , it's shores are limestone ( surprise , surprise ) and the water is pretty salty - the only thing that lives in it are some very small shrimp .
The wind had been blowing for a while and whipping up some good froth .
It turned the edge of the lake into a white border .
Back nearer the house is the woodshed , complete with Bouganvillea making a nice archway .
There was a redder variety just behind the shed
As well as the pink one
Many small birds were flitting about the place , this one stayed still long enough for a photo .
A little further down were some Hibiscus , this one about 200mm across
Then this frilled edge variety
And this enormous one , close to 300mm !!
The stamen on these flowers is always interesting .
