6/5/18 A little holiday

Hi people , the van is having some work done to the bedroom slide out - it has dropped on one side and won't go out - we won't put it out - so we've found a motor body builder - Aldom Pty Ltd in Wingfield - a suburb of Adelaide , who were willing to have a look for us . Other van repairers in Ballarat and Adelaide couldn't fit us in till the end of May !! which didn't really suit us .
We dropped the van off after packing up a lot of clothes and moving things out of the bedroom , ending with a ute full of clothes , food & other items . Not knowing how long we would be without our home made things awkward .
After some lunch in Victoria Parklands - beside the V8's race track , here's pit straight .

We moved 3 blocks and found our temporary home for the next 4 nights - we found an AirB&B for the 4 nights , it was a studio room behind a Victorian Villa . This is it .

This is our view out to the pool .

This house is quite amazing 13 feet ceilings , stamped metal ceilings and rosettes , formal hall & entry way and a large kitchen , dining , family room down the back . This is the neighbours house .

All the houses in the street were these type - magnificent !!
Next morning the bikes came out and we rode down to the parklands and around the racetrack before heading down toward the city area . Architecture is the theme again , I'll let the photo's do the talking .

Adelaide is known as the city of churches , well we finally found one - this one has a statue of Saint Mary Mackillop .

Adelaide is perfect for riding bikes around , bike paths everywhere , bike lanes on the roads - if you're game enough , it's not that bad really . Here's a section through the parklands .

Adelaide has a green belt all the way around the city centre , with soccer fields , parks , tennis courts , bowling greens , croquet green , playgrounds etc etc etc - very well set out .
Another sunset showed it's colours today .

Next day we headed up to Mt Lofty - only about 18klms from the city . It is the highest point , 710m above sea level and was rather cooler than down in the city . The mountain was first sited by Mathew Flinders from Kangaroo Island a few hundred years ago , today this white tower stands on top of Mt Lofty in his memory . A fire watch tower is also beside it .

Views over Adelaide and the coast would be pretty good on a nice clear day , ours though wasn't quite that clear .

The green belt around the city is clearer in that photo , the green gassy area in front of the city is Victoria Parklands .
We wandered around a walking track just below the summit and found a lot of 3m high shrubby trees with purple flowers & fruit green to orange in colour - turns out that is a Kangaroo Apple .

From the summit we drove north on the summit road through the back of the hills finding vineyards and more stunning houses .

We got a phone call , the van was done and ready for pickup , so we headed back north to pick it up. Brenton did a great job on the repairs - it turned out to be some broken rivets , so we had all the rivets in the other slides replaced as well , and some welding done on the suspension . They spent 4 and a half hours on the van , and that's what they charged us for !! All up it was a great job and they did it on short notice and kept us informed , we were pleasantly surprised with the small bill for the job !!
We picked up the van and returned it to the park , then headed back into the city to our little holiday studio - we had paid for 4 nights , so we were going to use them before heading back to the van .

Next day we took care of a few things that we required , it had rained overnight and was still a bit wet .

Our stay in town was over and we headed back to the van , getting things back to normal again , we were graced with another sunset .

Now to get the ute serviced and continue on our journey next week . Cheers
