23/4/22 Past Wilcannia

Leaving day had arrived , so we packed up and hit the road again - first into Broken Hill to empty tanks and put some water in .

Heading toward Wilcannia , the drive was quite okay , not a lot of other traffic , the occasional B double and plenty of caravans & campers .

Arriving in Wilcannia , we decided to put some fuel in to get us to Cobar where the fuel was 20 cents a litre cheaper . There's a 24hr card operated station that away from the main road - it's about 10cents a litre than the one on the main road .

The Darling River passes through Wilcannia , today the river was flowing well , which was quite pleasing to see .

This is the old opening bridge , right beside the Barrier Hwy bridge .

It was quite evident how much rain has been falling out here , just by looking at the roadsides - the grass beside the road was thick and already gone to seed .

The weather was looking ominous - more like summer time late afternoon storm clouds - this storm cell was dumping rain ahead of us , we were hoping it would run out before we got there , but no - the windscreen wipers haven't seen that much rain for quite a while - either had we !! It poured down for about 5klms , then we drove out the other side .

The afternoon was sneaking along , so we found a spot to pull up for the night . It wasn't far off the road, but there wasn't a lot of passing traffic , and we'd had enough for the day . Time for a look from above .

The contrasting colours of the outback never cease to amaze us .

Plenty of trees out in this part of the world , not much ground cover and lots of shrubby bushes .

Such a big landscape , stretching off to the horizon .
