Chasing our tails

After a great nights sleep we woke at 7am , another blue day . We fiddled around and finally got organised , heading to Cairns to try & find a clip for the wardrobe doors , do some shopping and hopefully some sight seeing as well .
We left Mareeba and headed toward Kuranda , traffic was surprisingly heavy for around 10 am - in both directions .  Arriving at the turnoff to Kuranda , we recognised a few things from our last visit 23 years ago , but not many . The road wound its way around and down and ended up at Smithfield - a suburb at the bottom of the mountain , and turned out very handy as there is a shopping centre right beside the road .
Shopping done , it was off into Cairns , past the airport and then turning off to check some places for these clips we need - well that was the start of it - none here , try here instead - none there , try this place - it all became a bit monotonous , and we eventually stopped for some lunch after driving from Cairns North to Cairns South and quite a few places in between .
We headed back to Barron Falls at Kuranda , a spectacular waterfall in wet weather but with only limited water going over it at the moment .

Barron Falls sits at the Kuranda end of the Barron Gorge , the water is held back by a weir , and feeds a hydro electric station that feeds electricity to Cairns in the morning & afternoon peaks .

We headed around to another lookout with views out to Cairns through the valley .

Barron River Gorge

We'd had enough for one day , so headed back to Mareeba for a beer !! or two !!! We met the neighbours around a fire , as the temperature dropped - had to put a jacket on !!
Thats it for today , not much of a day , but another day none the less .
