In footsteps of pioneers 23/6/15

Awake with the birds again , but after a great night’s sleep . Moving day again , it wont be hard to leave Normanton , it hasn’t left much of an impression on us - and got worse as the day went on - more on that later .
Packed & rolling at 9am , we headed south out of town on the Burke Development Road . The drive was going well , as we passed the Savannah Way road to Burketown - it was closed to traffic - one of the people from the park were parked in front of the road closed sign - probably deciding what to do !!!
Continuing on , the vegetation seemed to be changing regularly , with very few if any termite mounds , till we came around one corner and there it was - gravestone city , termite mounds as far as you could see . Another 15 minutes down the road and there were none !!!

I was driving today , and got my fair share of single lane tar - probably about 50klms worth - not all in one spot thankfully !! It all worked out well , with courteous drivers coming the other way .
We had made a decision to stop at Burke & Wills Roadhouse and find out about road conditions to Gregory Downs to the west , with the idea of going to Lawn Hill National Park- which is 94klms past Gregory Downs ( and they are 146klm from Burke & Wills R/H ).
The Wills Development Road is bitumen all the way to Gregory Downs , then some more past Gregory Downs and about 50 klms of dirt past there .
Decision made , we will stay here for the night , pack all the camping gear onto the ute and head off tomorrow , the RV will stay here for 2 nights , then we will be back on Friday , before heading to Cloncurry on Saturday .

There are many road trains using this road , so sleeping may be a problem tonight . There are a lot of caravanners here with us . The roadhouse doubles as the local pub , takeaway , gift shop and petrol station .
The sunset was pretty special here today , here are just a couple of photos .

Back to Normanton , in a round about sort of way . We filled up with diesel at the BP servo at Normanton , and only travelled 200klms today - we used 50.3 litres - that works out to be 25litres per 100 klms - that is the worst consumption we have ever had !!!! - by 7 litres per 100 klms . The only reason we can think of is substandard fuel . NOT HAPPY JAN !!!!
We will see what happens in the next couple of days when we aren’t towing !!!
