Okay , day 2 in Amsterdam . We weren't overly happy with the people and rubbish - it was dirtier than where we were in Athens - so decided to go somewhere else in the suburbs . The museum of street art was our choice , and as it turned out , wasn't the best choice , but we still enjoyed it . Our trip was mainly on buses today , but we had it sorted , our travel ticket for 3 days was very good , covering trains , trams & buses around the city area . I mentioned yesterday about the bridges lifting up to let taller vessels along the canals , well here we were stopped when the bridge in front of us started to open . Excuse the photo through the bus window , but you can see how the roadway pivots & lifts up , then drops back down again - clever engineering !!
Following good old google maps , we ended up in this suburban street . This is where the museum was , Hmmm , doesn't seem quite right , but we'll run with it . Getting to the exact location at one of the houses , we were met with a small sign saying that there couldn't be one museum for the street art , as it was all over the city . It also had an app you could download and find the locations of some of the better pieces - also at a price .
There was one piece a couple of doors down , the neighbours were probably having a laugh - tricked another couple of unwary travellers !!
It was a pleasant walk through parks and beside canals , showing us a bit of the real Amsterdam .
Here's another of the works . Just as a side note , if you look on the left hand side of the photo , you can see a conveyor set up to move furniture , boxes etc into an upper storey apartment .
After some lunch at a turkish restaurant , yeah I know Turkish , you're in Amsterdam , try something Dutch - maybe later 😆
Here's another canal shot , cafes utilise the paved areas on the larger fixed bridges over the canals .
Back into the city , we thought we'd go to the cathedral we found beside the palace , it had an exhibition on press photography - we went in the door , saw the 25 euro entry fee , and walked back out again .
This building is actually a shopping centre !!
Back to the tram station and head for home . Some of the buildings opposite messed with our heads - they looked like they were leaning to the left - there was no wacky backy smoked or near us !!
Another one seemed to do the same . They did mention on the cruise that some of the architects used to do some strange things with buildings here - think we found some of them !!
That was it for another day , we headed back to the apartment .
