2/7/24 Portsmouth & Winchester

Packup day , time to leave the Chalet and head to Portsmouth for a look around . Put some thought into our parking , and found a multi storey carpark near the port - much cheaper !! This mural stood out as we wandered down to the port .

We could see some tall ship masts in the distance , they belong to this this huge ship , which we think is on display .

There were a few other boats moored nearby , which should give you an idea on the size of this thing .

The Spinnaker stands an impressive 170 m tall and is a focal point from all around - we saw it from the Isle of Wight when we were there . There's an observation deck & restaurant up there as well , so we wandered through the old railway arches , and into the outlet stores shopping area , through to the Spinnaker and went up .

As you would expect , views weren't too bad , here's that large masted ship .

This is the view through the glass floor - missed the signs that said to take off shoes - Oops 😆

That's the Isle of Wight across the Solent .

After looking at the view for a while , we went to the outside viewing deck for a look , then back down again . Here's the view from ground level - the dark area in the middle is the glass floor .

We had time up our sleeve , so went for a short drive along the coast , parked and had some lunch , before making our way to Winchester Cathedral . As usual , we chose a lot of back roads again , which led us to this lookout ???? - it was a wider area of a lane with a gateway , so you can stop for a look . After we'd taken this a guy in a very wide Mercedes sports saloon came through - his car was wide enough that the grass was touching both sides of his car - he didn't look happy 😆😂🤣

These are some shots from the lanes we drove .

Luckily our hire car is narrow

Here's a video off a narrow section - you couldn't get out of the car !!

Found some parking at Winchester , and wandered down some lanes finding the cathedral . The stone walls are all part of the cathedral grounds .

No mow May has stretched through June and now the start of July , but the grassed areas did look good with the daisies and other garden plants .

We found the cathedral and walked around the outside trying to find the entrance - it was the other end of course .

Here's the entrance , we found a sign showing the entrance fees - £19 per adult !! - we weren't that desperate to see it , so kept going into the main street area .

    And here it is .

Some more use of the stone walls .

With that , we headed off back to Justins again for another week . Here's a map link :- https://www.google.com/maps/d/edit?mid=19I-ZEKnQ40x8A5lM85eI_72407iN3Pw&usp=sharing
