1/7/24 Clanfield , Chichester Cathedral

Today we head to Chichester for a look , and as usual , take the back way to get there . You never know what you're going to come across . This field of flowers surprised us , definitely not expected ! it is a crop of sorts meant to be grown rather than just a weed infestation .

Finding some parking near the cathedral was relatively easy today , fed the parking meter again and away we went . The cathedral is a rare gem - it was free !! 🤣

Not surprising us , there's a pub - The Duke & Rye opposite the church , in an old church - notice the cross on top has broken in half - probably a lightning bolt from above 😆😂🤣

There are groups of school kids all milling around outside , so we went in , hopefully to miss them . The long main hall isn't as over the top as most , but still interesting .

Couldn't resist taking a shot of the ceiling at the top of the spire .

Here's where all the important people sit .

Plenty of leadlight glass windows here , lot's of work in that as well .

When doing some excavation in the 1990's they discovered some Roman mosaic tiles , so set about protecting them from the jackhammers . This is the view through the glass panel at floor level.

Another small section of the cathedral .

This wall hanging separates a couple of sections of the cathedral .

Liked the stone fence outside , there's a junior school through the wall to the right .

The architects had a sense of humour , check out the rainwater spouts from the upper roof - probably politicians 😂

This is one of the covered walkways to the side of the cathedral .

Little laneways lead to various buildings in the complex.

We then headed up to the main street , finding this clock tower gazebo thingy - definitely not the prettiest construction . It was built in 1501 apparently , so may of had some gothic influences .

The malls were crawling with people , not sure why , but there were lots there . We then headed out to a place called Selsey . It's out on the coast , so we thought we'd have lunch out there - another car picnic - great weather we're having , and it's supposed to be Summer !!
This is the view of the boat ramp and the ever-present pebbles .

There are some interesting buildings down this way , they seem to have made use of the local resources and using them to decorate the houses , sheds , fences etc . The houses are mostly double brick , but they seem to be using the rocks as the outside layer , creating an interesting look .

Here we are looking out to the Isle Of Wight .

More back lane's on the way home , trouble is , they're not that much quieter than the main roads .

Time to get off the road again .

Back to the Chalet again - the chalet is not much more than an elaborate lean to , in the backyard of a two storey terrace house , but it served the purpose . Here's a map link :- https://www.google.com/maps/d/edit?mid=1gIcGkEa1aKqMBkFatfq8ZACfXLw6_ys&usp=sharing
