Day 2 in Interlaken sees us heading to Grindewald , the weather looks good for today , so we take advantage . First up a bus ride to Interlaken railway station , then a train to Grindewald , views up into the mountains incredible .
Grindewald is covered in snow during Winter , and is a ski centre with cable cars going in several directions . Our train was full , people diving off at different stations , going in different directions . We walked up the street , taking in the mountain views as we go .
We were definitely in amongst the mountains here , not seeming to make any difference which way we looked , the scenery was still out there with the best .
This is one of the many landing areas used by the paraglider operations that fly here .
The surrounding mountains aren't quite a high as they were earlier , due to our height gain , but still very impressive with some residual snow drifts .
More of the alpine scenery .
Views on the way up were stunning , waterfalls , chalets , winding tracks & roads , and other chair lifts & ski lifts not currently in use . The chair lift goes through one station that turns us 90 degrees to the left & uphill to the exit station - it's quite a piece of machinery to keep us going upwards .
Arriving at the top station we have wildflowers greeting us as we get out & head to the lookout areas .
This is below Grindewald First , several chalets around an access road , with a stream that spilts into 2 , before reforming back into one and becoming a waterfall . Cowbells can be heard tinkling away in the valley below .
Spare a thought for this guy , busily working away with his whipper snipper on the walking track back down to Grindewald - would be a great walk down , but not today .
The stream that goes past the chalets , turns into one of the prettiest waterfalls - Bachlagerwasserfall
I mentioned paragliders , here they were quietly floating back down to Grindewald . It would be one of the most scenic flying areas - probably anywhere here would be just fine .
This apparently , is the number one selfie spot , with a queue waiting to get themselves snapped doing their 25 thousand poses . Needless to say , we didn't bother with that one .
We were quite content to do the lookouts above , and the cliff walk below & around the cliffs .
All very special and created amazing memories .
Then we succumbed , a couple offered to take our photo after I took theirs .
The cliff walk was spectacular , here it is with the lookout above .
Had some lunch and headed back down to town , before deciding to go up to Eiger . We managed to get a 30 seat cable car to ourselves for the trip up and also the return trip back down - how good was that !!
Scenery - Stunning !!
North Face of Eiger - an extremely popular mountain to climb apparently . There's 1.8klms of rock face there !
We finally got to the top of the cable car ride and to the Eigergletscher - the train station , where you can get a cog train through the mountain up to the peak of the mountain . We didn't worry about that one , we had other plans .
Views from up here were pretty special as well , looking down over a small lake and a ski resort .
Wildflowers were growing happily up here as well .
We took in as much as we could , before heading back down to Grindewald and our planned adventure .
No sooner had we arrived at the bottom station , we were out of the large cable car , and back into a 4 person one again . This time we went up to Mannlichen , another ski resort area . This is looking over the cable car station that takes you down to Wengen .
Wengen is the town below , then below that down in the valley is the town of Lauterbrunnen . We walked across to the cable car and went down to Wengen , before getting the cog train down to Lauterbrunnen , then the train back to Interlaken .
What an amazing day , bus , train , cablecars & cog train rides , then there's the visual overload , spectacularly beautiful scenery - definitely on another level , time to stop and try and let it all soak in .
