17/7/24 Interlaken to Lucerne train

Today we leave Interlaken , and go to Lucerne . Again , we are travelling by train , so we're up fed and watered , ready to go , so head down to the bus stop and catch the bus to the train station . We had a little bit of time to wait before the train arrived . We boarded and got a couple of good seats with a view , most have large viewing windows on this train , and for good reason . The line follows the edge of Lake Brienzersee down to Brienz . Here's some of the scenery along the way , looking toward Brienz .

This is the hotel resort with it's own cog train that we went past yesterday .

This is from Brienz looking back toward Interlaken at the other end of the lake .

The mountains must have been formed under a lot of pressure , given the folds & twists in the rock .

There were numerous waterfalls along the way , some large , some just a trickle .

From Brienz we continued on to Meiringen , before the train headed back toward Interlaken ???  We were a bit surprised , so shuffled ourselves around so that we were back facing the forward direction . Nearly back to Brienz , the train turned to the right and started climbing , climbing , climbing . We had some views over the lake - in between trees - before we disappeared into a tunnel briefly and emerged near the top of the climb . Continuing on , the train wound through hills and chalets , before emerging out of the forests and beside another lake - Lake Lungerersee - and the town of Lungern .

Senery is spectacular , just like the last few days have been . More waterfalls , model towns with green as green grass .

As the train wound it's way along the lake , the road also followed the lake more closely - would be an excellent drive !!

At the other end of the lake is the town of Kaiserstuhl , where we start dropping down into the next valley beyond it .

Next town is Giswil , with it's signature church & spire perched up on a mound above everyone around .

Next little village on the side of Lake Sarnersee , is Oberwilen .

The train continued on beside Lake Lucern , before pulling in to the station at Lucerne .

We went back to our accomodation at Horz , and dropped our bags off and had a walk around while waiting for our room .
If there's a train trip to do in Switzerland , I would count this as a great one , Basel to Interlaken was also great - they're are probably all great 😂 .  Here's a map link :- https://www.google.com/maps/d/edit?mid=1tFveuEklwfJ3fQp4SUoeFrQ5Fg8SJ2Y&usp=sharing
