23/7/24 Porsche Museum

Today we head out to the Porsche Museum , it's a train ride out for about 7klms to it's station , yes there's a train station there beside it - probably more for the workers at the factories across the road . The station is in the background of this photo of the entrance to the museum . The Porsche's are parked on the portico in front of the museum , ready for the Porsche Drive experience $$$$$

We queued and paid for entry - 12 Euro for both of us - bargain , dropped our bags into a locker and started on our tour with an audio guide to get an explanation on exhibits . This was the first display - Ferdinand Porsche helped design this vehicle ( sides are clear to see the workings behind ) . It's an electric car and had a range of 80klms . It was built in 1898

The electric motor surrounds the rear axle and only weighs 130kgs

This is the Austro - Daimler "Sascha"designed in 1922 and had 43 race wins  again designed by Ferdinand Porsche . Capable of 144km/hr from a 1089ccm engine .

This is the Porsche Type 360 Cisitalia designed & built after the war in 1946,47 and was capable of 300km/hr froma 1493ccm 12 cylinder engine .

Ferdinand Porsche couldn't find the car he had dreamed of , so created the Ferry Porsche356 , on the road in 1948 , it was the beginning of Porsche Sports Cars .

This is a Porsche 550A Spyder

And it's interior , built for racing obviously .

Not only sports cars , but designed a tractor as well .

We're skipping a lot of years and models , otherwise I'll be still writing this blog in 12 months time !! This one is a 904 Carrera GTS from 1963 .

The display has hundreds of cars on display , some on loan to the museum , others owned by the museum - would be interesting to know what's tucked away in another warehouse ?? Here's one of the racing breed - the 917 .

The all time classic 911 Carrera from the early 1970's

Having the audio guide as we walked around certainly helped with information at your fingertips . This is a Formula 1 car from the early 1980's driven by Alain Prost - McLaren car with Porsche engine

   Here's a 911 GT1 Evo from 1997 - still a very stylish race car at 28 years old

Some of the many trophies collected over the years , including the LeMans 24hr .

If I were to be able to drive out in one , this would be it - Carrera GT from 2006 - ahhh dreams .

After walking around for over 3hrs , we decided it was time for a break and lunch , outside in some fresh air , there were a variety of different models out for the Porsche Drive experience . We were going to have a look in the shop inside before we left , but the queue at the end of the cars , is the queue to get into the shop itself , not for admittance into the museum !! so we decided we wouldn't bother .

Back onto the train and back into town for a wander around . We were heading to Palace Square . This is the palace - or the back of it at least .

Across the road was another square and next to that was the old palace .

Crossing the road again , we found Palace Square , but it was closed off for a Jazz Concert , so couldn't see the palace front or the square , so we went home for a swim .
