24/6/16 Quiet day at the office

Overcast skies greet us again , some light drizzle falling occasionally . We decided to go to the information centre to get some information - what else !!! Before we headed there , we went to a lookout . The wind was blowing , but the rain has stayed away for a while , it was cool enough to require a jacket - rude , we don't do cold !!
The lookout gives a good view over Karratha out to the Burrup Peninsular , and also Port Sampson in the east .

From the lookout , we headed off to the golf club for a look , it has a bowling green as well , I may play golf tomorrow , just for a change .
We ventured out to a boat ramp further to the east - it is closed at the moment , they are redeveloping it , building new sea walls etc. Off to the side is a rocky area , some of which disappears when the tide comes in . The rock was interesting in that it wasn't limestone , but looked similar - there is a lot of old coral and shells embedded in the rock - not sure if it is fossilised or not .
Wandering around the rock pools showed lots of little fish scooting around .

Therefore many birds flying around and quite a group just sitting around . The first one is a Crested Tern , and the 2nd photo is a group of Pied Oyster Catchers !!

Here are some of the shells embedded in the rock .

Back to the ute and off to the Light Industrial Area on the southern side of the ridge ( about 4klms from town ), we tried to find an air pressure switch for the compressor on the ute . The original one stopped working properly , so I installed the spare yesterday and wanted to get another for a spare - just in case !! Seems the only place I can get them from is Brisbane , via the original supplier !!
We finally make it to the visitor centre , and got the information we needed - seems the rain over here has caused chaos for a lot of travellers , with a lot of gravel roads closed , all roads around Karijini have been closed , the Rio Tinto rail access road from here to Tom Price has been closed , Paraburdoo Rd to Nanutarra has also been closed due to flooding , so a lot of peoples plans have been thrown out the window !!
Back into town and time for some food shopping , then home again . For the rest of the afternoon     ( what was left of it ) we watched the new comers drive in and set up . A quick trip to the hardware shop for a couple of things , then back for a beer as the rain started again .
Not much excitement , but you can't be on the go all the time , some days just need to be a bit slower!!
 That's it for today .
