Carnarvon was okay , and enabled us to get things done - some that we didn't even know about !!
We drove up today , and had forgotten just how desolate some of this country is . A section just after turning off the highway is amazing , you have views from the west horizon to the east horizon , with a huge sky - it really brings the vast distance and how big this country is into perspective !!!
Arriving in Coral Bay around 1:15 , checked in and set up , then had some lunch . Getting on site was interesting as some of the park roads are sandy - we needed to engage 4wd to get on site - as soon as you hit some of the sand , the ute just started to spin and dig in - the guy beside us in a 5th wheeler had the same problem .
Lunch done , we headed off for a walk down the beach . Temperature a pleasant 26 degrees , water temp was about 25 around the point where we swam & snorkelled last year , but seemed cooler in the bay ?? don't know why !!
There's something about this place , Ningaloo Reef just off the beach , great temperatures , although it's busy , it still seems relaxed !
This is toward the boat ramp .
There's some weather headed our way over the weekend , and this cloud is just the start . They could use the rain , Carnarvon's year to date rainfall is 8.9mm - normally by this time of year they've had 144mm !!
Seas must have been a bit rough of late as there's seaweed lining the edge of the beach , normally there's no swell as it's very well protected by the reef !!
The water is nice and clear , you can see where the coral starts and the sandy section finishes .
On a more somber note , the search here for 2 fishermen missing since last weekend has been suspended today . They went missing and only small bit's & pieces have been found .
That's it for today , hopefully we'll have something each day if the weather holds out !!
