Getting away , next stop was to empty the tanks , and we had the assistance of a little aboriginal boy - he was a hoot - asking questions and telling us other stuff .
It was good to get out on the road , the trip was uneventful , the roads not the best surface to drive on . Arriving at Elliot , we went past Longreach Waterhole - didn’t want to be 12 klms from the highway on a sandy dirt road if the forecast rain was to arrive , so we kept driving . Passed several free camps and a couple of caravan parks before stopping at Renner Springs Hotel & Caravan Park for the night . It was overcast and had threatened to rain a couple of times - no more than 30 odd spots of rain however .
Settling in with some cheese & bickies and a beer , we kept an eye on the sunset - it looked promising .
Several road trains were parked out front , it will be interesting to see what time they leave .
The park had filled up with vans & tents . There were also some cyclists who we had met at Territory Manor a couple of days ago - there are 2 Americans in their 60’s , a lady from Amsterdam in her 60’s and a couple of younger ones . They are all riding their bikes from Darwin to Adelaide to Melbourne , to Sydney . They have to set up their tents after their ride, their food is prepared and their equipment transported for them - only have to do between 100 & 170 odd klms a day - EASY !!!
The Americans are going from Sydney to New Zealand to do another 5 week ride over there !!
The sun was setting and emitting a golden glow under the clouds - a lovely end to the day .
