10/1/17 Corryong

What to do at Corryong - Hmmm - let’s do what we used to do , grab some bread rolls & head off up to Mt Elliot . It’s different this time , we get to use 4wd and go up the front track - and you definitely need it !! Last time I went up this track , it was rough & rocky , narrow and tight - this year however , the bulldozer had been through , the track was smooth , drainage mounds put in and the track widened . The reason for that would probably have something to do with the power company improving access when they had to replace some poles on the line that feeds the communication towers at the top . Whatever the reason , we are thankful for it . The track is steep , very close to 45 degrees in some spots and takes you up about 700m in height !! The landcruiser did it without blinking , both up and down again .
We will never get sick of the view from the takeoff , with views over Corryong and the whole valley.

Pilots were arriving and setting their gliders up , it was a sea of colour & activity . The                    weather  wasn’t really cooperating for them though , with the cloud coming over and making conditions poor for flying - no sun usually equals no thermals and no lift -  there was some lift , but not living up to it’s classic status of yesteryear when I was flying !!

Anyway , enough of that , most of them flew down and landed in the bombout paddock at the bottom of the hill , a lucky few actually got away from the hill and landed out - still no great distance or height to boast about !! Tomorrow will be better !!

We sat and watched most of them take off and fly , here are a few of them taking off , and last a photo of 2 gliders with Corryong below them in the distance .

With that , we headed back down the front track and headed back to the park , it wasn’t overly warm but we decided to go for a swim in the creek . It was a bit cold after the rain last night , and also flowing faster and higher than yesterday when we arrived - it was refreshing, and we enjoyed it !!

  Well that’s it for today
