10/6/24 To Zagreb

After a good nights sleep again , we wake to find it's raining - happy we booked our tickets to Plitvice yesterday !! Breakfast done , we loaded the car and headed off toward Zagreb . I took these before we left though .

Seems to be lot's of old ruins - houses or sheds , who knows , some are that overgrown it's hard to see them .

This is Guesthouse Bubalo , we had half the bottom floor , lot's of room .

We've also started to see some timber slab homes now - interesting to see the corners of the house have been dovetailed .

We found another shepherd looking after his sheep , about 30 of them up in the bush a little - he had 3 doge as well , one decided to see us off the premises chasing and barking for about 400m ..

Out onto the main road up to Zagreb and we kept seeing police cars , good , but also worrying . Worrying because there are very few speed signs here , so you don't know how fast you are allowed to go , and that can be anything from 30 to 130klm/hr !!! The speedo has a digital readout telling you the speed to do ???? then Google maps has another  speed all together , sometimes they're the same , but others ???? We drove around this nice bit of winding road doing 75 , next thing there's a policeman waving us down - Hmm RBT maybe ?? , nope , show us your documents please , and car rego/ license . He wandered off to the car with my passport , having a conversation with his female colleague , then came back across - open the hatch up please - sure 2 suitcases in there , all good . Enjoy your holiday and we were off again , anxiety levels diminished somewhat .
Pulling off the highway to see some of the local towns & villages had us driving around industrial area's again , but also through some beautiful places as well . This is Korana River at Karlovac .

After this stop , we headed back out onto the highway to tackle the roads into Zagreb . We found our way to our accomodation , and unloaded everything , the car goes back tomorrow , so we decided to use up some more fuel and check some of the countryside to the east of Zagreb . The tollways here are really good and top speed is 130 , zoom , zoom !! We pulled off the tollway , paying our 2.40 euro and headed to Kriz . It's a small, town on a hill in farmland and has a church beside another , divided by a road . You can see which one has the better bak account .

AS we walked around town one of the locals waved and said hello , friendly guy that one . Next stop was Cazma , and an even more impressive church here , it's also one of the oldest , having a 6m diameter round window in the front wall above the doorway . They have done a lot of renovations here .

But when you go along the side , you can see where a lot of work is required , and has been done previously .

From Cazma we headed north up country lanes to stay away from the traffic and see what's lurking away from the mainstream . This old timber slab home is falling down ever so slowly , even had it's own well out front - there's still water in it !!

Another timber slab cottage still being lived .

And another , this one also looks to be lived in judging by the curtains , the roof not so much .

Time to head for our accomodation , another interesting drive around , a lot of sweetcorn being grown at the moment , but there's also wheat as well . Here's a map link :- https://www.google.com/maps/d/edit?mid=1x7ZqybulzpHW1M5O193x-QR2eSvchLA&usp=sharing
