Bilo to Rocky - off again

Awaking to a foggy morning , we weren't in a rush this morning . The drive to Rockhampton isn't going to take more than about two & and half to three hours , and our hosts for the next few days         ( Garry & Linda Schofield ) were not due home till 1:30pm .
The adjusted , sewn and re-sewn kayak cover was on and fitted nicely -  Hooray - there was certain amount of frustration with it - so we threw it up onto the ute and strapped it down .
We packed up and hitched up , Lyn's driving today , and of we went at 10am . First stop was at the Heritage Centre to empty the tanks at the public dump point , then we hit the highway . The road north was very rough for towing , with much lurching and bumping , it was not the most comfortable drive . The scenery was great - we were driving through a very large valley with hills in the distance on either side of us , black soil plains growing lucerne and sorghum and another spindly bush that is used for cattle feed ( apparently keeps them in really good condition ) but is apparently turning into a noxious weed - very hard to get rid of !!

Please excuse the blurry photos - they were all taken at about 80klm/hr , as it is a bit hard to pull up 7.5 tonnes of ute & rv to get some photos taken , not to mention we were not going to get off the tar unless there was somewhere hard to drive on . We turned around yesterday and were very close to getting stuck on the side of the road .
Continuing on , Lyn noticed a traffic sign - Low Clearance Bridge Ahead - we slowed down quickly to give ourselves the best chance of taking whatever action we would have to , to get past or around this bridge . The road was curved and sloping , with little room to turn around , and with the condition of the sides of the road soft and boggy , the thought of turning around wasn't a good one . Rounding the corner , all we could do was laugh as we saw the low clearance bridge - it was low alright , but the opposite of what we were thinking - it was almost a causeway - the low clearance referred to its proximity to the water in the creek , not low clearance as in under a rail or road bridge!!
The drive was really quiet with very little traffic until we hit the Capricorn Highway and headed into Rockhampton . Fortunately there was a small town with toilets not far away from the turnoff , as the bumpy 75klm from Biloela had taken it's toll on our bladders .
It was a short run into Rockhampton , the area has grown and much roadwork has been done since our last trip up here . We got nearly every red light as we drove in . Turning off toward the show ground , we headed out and stopped near the airport to have some lunch as it was 1pm . That done , we continued on out to Alton Downs to our destination for the next few days . Our hosts Garry & Linda , who are school friends from a long way back , arrived not long after us . The next several hours will be spent talking and catching up .
Here is our view toward Mt Archer , which is on the eastern side of Rockhampton , we are on the western side of Rockhampton .

We have also missed all the bad weather events that have been happening lately .
 Bye
