The starting point

Saturday 16 May 2015

Curtains to golf , then moving day .

We will combine Friday & Saturday's blog .
The weather was little blowy Friday , but there was a game of golf on order at Capricorn Resort . I headed out at 8:45 and rang Pete , he met me at the golf course and delivered me to the pro shop in the work ute . I was playing the championship course today - there is a resort course as well !
There was a group of 6 guys on the front nine , so they suggested I start on the back nine - I did that after some warmup on the practice green . It was good to have the course to myself as I could take photos as I went without slowing anyone else .

There was a southeasterly wind blowing , quite hard at times , and kept the temperature down to the low 20's .
There are some good golf holes here , with strategically placed ponds & lakes , bunkers and trees . The cyclone took it's toll here as well with a lot of trees blown over  , but mostly all cleaned up now .

I only shared the course with a few people and some resident kangaroos , lots of birds and a couple of workers . it was pleasant morning .

Meanwhile , back at the RV , Lyn was busy altering some curtains for Heather , taking Rex ( Heathers dog ) for a walk down the beach , and kicking back in the sun reading a book till I came back and we had some lunch .
We decided to have a more substantial lunch , as we were going to be having an extended happy hour with Pete & Heather , Hayden & Tracey .
It was time to go down to the shops to get some essentials , and have a last look at Wreck Point Lookout - it's only 2 mins up the road from Heathers . It was very windy with a lot of swell running , white caps , and a very hazy look about it - made us really glad we went to Great Keppel when we did , otherwise we wouldn't have got there at all !!!
We packed the bikes onto the ute , and wandered into Heathers . She had made a batch of chilli salsa, instead of putting 4 small red chilli's in , she put 2 large green chilli's in - it needed another can of tomatoes to be mixed with it to calm it down a bit . It was still very nice , we also had some cheese & bickies , then later some pizza . We had a great night with many laughs , and great company .

Saturday

Waking this morning ( Saturday ) to more wind , but warmer temperatures , we started our pack up after breakfast . We showed Heathers neighbours though the RV , before Pete checked out some things for me , then we hitched up and prepared to hit the road again . It was a really good week with Heather & Pete , that we enjoyed immensely - Thanks !!!
Farewells completed , we headed off to the information centre to empty the tanks out . We met a guy down there who was quite taken with our Ute & RV , commenting that it was " the perfect setup " for travelling around Australia - we were quite chuffed !!!
We eventually got moving again , heading back toward Rocky , before turning onto a side road , then onto the Bruce Hwy . Next stop was Yaamba for some lunch at the rest stop that was also a free camp spot . There is a pub beside it , and there was the roar of engines coming from the other side of the highway . Apparently there is a very popular motor sport event on today - ride on mower racing !!!! Yes you heard it here first !!! We heard one , ( may have been a couple ) , of these mowers that sounded deceptively like a V8 without an exhaust racing around the track - there were also lots of people & tents etc watching the events - it goes for the whole weekend .
The free camp was filling up with motorhomes , camper trailers and rooftop tents and some caravans already setting up - it was only 12:30 pm - you have to get in early for this one - it would be nice and quiet too , being all of 15m from the highway !!!
Continuing on up the highway , we got a call from a southbound truck driver , who told us about 2 cows on the side of the road 2.5klms from the Ogmore turnoff . Lyn slowed down as we approached - at the 2.5klm mark , there was a caramel coloured cow grazing in the long grass beside the road - we didn't see the 2nd one , but we were amazed at how camouflaged it was - we only saw it when we were nearly right on top of it !! We were also impressed with the truck driver , and his accurate measurement , and the fact he called us up !!! There were other people on the road , but he made a point of contacting us only !!! Good Karma !!
It was 2pm and we decided to go into St Lawrence ( about 6klms ) and check out the free camp at the recreation grounds . As we approached , we could see quite a large number of vans , tents and horse floats - there is an event on - camp draft maybe ? as there was also quite a number of cattle being mustered as well . There were caravans & motorhomes parked on the opposite side of the road , as the camping area was completely full . We drove into St Lawrence , turned around and came back , parking in a vacant place , before chatting with a few of the other campers - they told us there were trains running regularly earlier - we had a couple go through later on - they are about 50 m away from us !!
There was music coming from the rec ground during the evening - obviously entertainment for the event people , but didn't worry us at all .
 Well that's it for today & yesterday , here's a map link :-https://www.google.com/maps/d/edit?mid=z1G8gwwxwyYo.kXVgq5B86P1g
