Off to Mackay and wolf whistles .

Even though there was some music over at the rec ground till late , we had a good nights sleep waking at 7am . For the amount of people around , the whole area was really quiet .
We ended up being one of the first departures , heading out to the highway to head towards Mackay . Skies were overcast and looking like rain . The highway was quiet as well , with only a few cars & trucks going the opposite direction . The mountains to our left were shrouded in mist , and the country leading up to them is predominantly beef cattle country . There are large flat areas bordered by trees that looked really tall and spindly with cattle grazing quietly .
After about an hours drive the cattle gave way to sugarcane and greyer skies with rain , not a lot of rain , just enough to make you slow up a bit .
We looked at pulling in at Sarina Sugar Shed to look at the mini sugar mill . It has a small functioning mill and distillery showing what they do with sugarcane , but alas , we were an hour early  for the tour and it was raining , so we kept driving .
Another 30 kms up the road and we were at Mackay , and pulled into the visitor information centre. It is located on the southern end of the botanic gardens .

We got some brochures etc and waited between showers , before getting back in the ute and heading to Andergrove Van Park .
Checked in and set up , we were welcomed by some ducks - nothing strange there , but then we could hear some high pitched wolf whistles , looking around , we couldn't see anyone but it kept happening - thought the fan club had finally caught up with us - but alas no , it was the ducks . Apparently these are whistler ducks , I am as amazed as you , really , whistling ducks ??? who's pulling whose legs here then ??? Strange but true , we read it in the brochures from the van park , there are wood ducks , whistler ducks , Ibis , water foul , lorikeets and blue and green eyed honey eaters . Hmmm , whistler ducks !!!
We are having a visit this afternoon from a potential customer for Pacific RV . I rang him this morning and organised for him to come over at 4pm , which he did . We gave him the full run down on the RV , and the ute , and at 5:45 pm he drove off very impressed !! His wife is coming for a look in the morning . As he was leaving he produced a bottle of red wine which we politely refused ( we don't drink red wine ) and it wasn't required anyway - we don't mind showing off our RV .
