Cooee Bay & Beyond

We packed up yesterday and moved out to Yeppoon , at Heather & Pete’s place - more precisely , in between their place and their next door neighbours . The rest of the day was spent catching up & chatting with a few beers thrown into the mix & then dinner with some neighbours - Damo & Tracey.

It’s getting boring - said nobody ever , about another blue sky day - we’ve got another !!
We had some breakfast and went for a walk with Heather & Pete to the beach - about 100m walk - then proceeded to check out the view towards Great Keppel Island .

We all wandered down to check out the water temperature - very pleasant - then wandered down Lammermoor Beach to a rocky outcrop , then came back . The beach continued on for quite a way, all the way round to Keppel Bay Marina .

The cyclone damage was very evident , with tree roots pointing skywards , sand dunes have been washed away , and trees have been put in windrows on the edge of the dunes waiting to be cleaned up.

We got back to the house and had some water , before going for a drive to check out Yeppoon and the cyclone damage . There are still old houses - fibro shacks mainly - that haven’t been touched since the cyclone , because of the asbestos . We went past one house that was missing its roof and several walls - the queen sized bed was out in the weather with the sheets & doona still on it , as it was left before they evacuated !!!!
A lot of older houses have been flattened and removed , many houses still have tarps on the roof , whilst many others have shiny new roofs . Damage to the trees is still evident , with some trees having new growth around the main trunk and branches , with any minor branches & leaves being blown to pieces . Heather & Pete relayed stories of the hillsides looking bare with just sticks on them ( tree trunks ) , they were amazed just how much the bush had recovered in the two months since the cyclone . People were wondering how Yeppoon would recover from this disaster , such was the desperation after the cyclone . It is still recovering , and will still take some time .
We headed back south to Rosslyn and Mulambin to Causeway Lake , where we could go for a paddle . There was also Camp Hill - where there is a walking track to the top for some great views of the coast - another place for the to do list . We drove back and into Keppel Bay Marina , where there are hundreds of yachts & motor cruisers and big fishing boats moored . Being mothers day , there were lots of vacant spaces , with many out for a cruise on such a nice day .

Back to the RV for some lunch as it was 1:30 pm . A few family matters arose and were dealt with as we again found ourselves on the back deck with a few beers and some chilli salsa & doritos .
