Up early after a good nights sleep, it was a bit cooler here . We decided to find the manager and pay some money - we couldn't find her yesterday - and to try and book the tour of the property & the eastern side of The Pinnacles .
All good, we found her and organised everything , the tour would be tomorrow morning, as she was booked for today and had other things to do . But she did give us some ideas for things to do and places to go , one was up to Lesueur NP , northeast of Jurien Bay . There are walks to do and there is a huge range of plants endemic to here that don't grow anywhere else - it is a biodiversity hotspot and is one of the most important in WA . There are more than 900 species of plants , 122 species of birds , 15 species of mammals and 50 million very sticky fles . I also managed to find a rather large grass tick that thought it might like my leg - it was returned to its native habitat post haste !!!
The park has an 18.5 Klm one way road to take you through the park , with numerous spots to pull over and look at the wildflowers - there were still quite a lot out flowering !! There are 3 walks / climbs that can be done , one that takes you around one of the Mesa , another that takes you to the top of another Mesa - Mt Lesueur , and another botanic walk . We walked on a combination of all 3 , seeing lots of flowers and a lizard sitting in the top of a bush a metre off the ground - it blended in very nicely .
We looked at quite a few spots on the drive out , with many areas dominated by one flowering plant , then another would take over , again and again . Then as we climbed up away from the lower area , grass trees started to dominate - there were hundreds of them !! Up at the lookout , the view was of grass trees and low scrub . There were some rocky outcrops up there as well - mainly orange lumpy rock , that the plants grow on top of or over .
Off to Jurien Bay for lunch , the drive took us through similar vegetation growing mainly in sand dunes . We reached our destination and drove round the marina and back to the shops , finding one for a feed of fish & chips - we had red emperor & snapper with chips - mm mm , it was really good , some of the best we've had !!!
Back to the ute and down the road toward Cervantes , there is a lookout on the way - Molah Lookout, so we stopped for a look . There were coastal views from Jurien Bay to Cervantes , green ocean water and white sand dunes .
Off again , and we turned off the hwy to go into Cervantes , turning off again to go to Hansons Bay Lookout . It is perched on top of a 30m tall sand dune , the wind was blowing pretty well , keeping the temperature down .
Back down the road 500m , we pulled into Lake Thetis , where they have their own population of stromatolites , similar to Hamelin Pool at Shark Bay , but this was a small lake . There is a walkway above the ground to protect the vegetation and stromatolites from the public . The stromatolites are different from Hamelin - these being mainly round .
Back out to the hwy and back to the RV . We've seen so many stumpy tail blue tongue lizards today - the tally is up to 8 - we saw 2 before reaching the road , I had to kick a couple of the road on the way back - one didn't want to move at all , deciding to lick at my boots !
That's it for today , see you soon !!!
