12 & 13 /7/16 Ground Hog Days

Ground hog day again , a bit windy yesterday and again today . We chose to stay inside , out of the wind for the morning . The wind usually backs off in the afternoon - seems a bit back to front - normally the wind is quiet in the morning , building as the day goes on .
Having a cooked lunch seems to be working for us at the moment , and gets it out of the way for the day . After lunch we have been riding the bikes around the park and then going for a walk along the beach .
This is the view after 10 klms of red dirt road , as you crest the rise , on the way into 80 Mile Beach .

This is the beach yesterday - probably the busiest beach we’ve seen in WA , people fishing, cars parked everywhere , quad bikes as well !!!

Here’s a couple of sunset shots - they are good here !!!

Today after lunch we headed down to the market area - there is a market on Wednesdays & Sundays - they don’t allow people to sell anything from their campsite , only at the markets . There was jewellery , timber trinkets , some caravan stuff and spare parts , books & clothes and one lady doing haircuts . We didn’t purchase anything .
Heading off on the bikes , we parked them at the public access carpark and went for our daily walk along the beach . Today we headed to the west , chatting to some of the fishermen & women . As we were chatting to one gentleman from Albany , we noticed a bit of action further up , so walked up to see what was happening . Bait fish were swimming within a metre of the sand , keeping as much distance from their predators as they could . Noticing something darker in the water , I kept my eyes on it . It all became clear very quickly - it was a shark !!! it’s tail and dorsal fins protruding from the water - from what I could see it was about 4 metres long and only about 8 - 10 m from the sand - no wonder the bait fish were close to shore !!!  Did I mention that no-one swims here !!
This is the bait fish .

Fishermen were going berserk trying to cast their bait out in front of the shark to try and catch it - score :- shark 1 fisherman 0 !! There was more than one shark , we noticed a couple of other dark shapes just under the water .

After about 10 mins watching , we wandered off down the beach finding a sea sponge ?? that looked a bit like an old onion bag , washed up on the beach . There were also quite a lot of jellyfish down this end of the beach as well - these were the size of a dinner plate .

Here is a collection of some of the shells we found , also a red sea sponge & a clear u shaped animal ???

A small branch from another sea plant looked good silhouetted against the blue sky .

Back to the bikes and back to the van for some cheese & bickies and a cold beer , before going back for another sunset - and aren’t they good !!!

Even the sand dunes looked good with a golden glow from the sun going down !!

That’s it for today , bye for now !!
