Into town for a look around Town Beach , the jetty wasn't finished last year when we were here . Stencilled concrete walkway greets you and leads you out to the jetty . The rocks on the side are local stone and look great .
This is the view to the west of Town Beach toward the port .
There are 3 covered areas on the jetty , the roof of each one has been laser cut , allowing the sun to shine through creating patterns on the concrete . The jetty is popular with a lot of fishermen & women , as you can see by the mess on the concrete .
The jetty is a long way above the water , especially at low tide , but there is a walkway that goes down the right hand side for access to & from boats .
This is the amphitheatre used by hundreds of people during Stairway to the Moon .
There is a monument to WW2 - it's called 9 stories . During the war Japan came and destroyed flying boats anchored in Roebuck Bay , many people died - officially it's 80 , but many more died and weren't accounted for . On the day , 9 Japanese Zero's attacked , and on each of these silhouettes statues are stories from the day - very , very moving .
Here's one of the statues , hopefully you can read the words .
This one tells the story of a boy , he returned as a 77 year old .
The Boab fits right in here .
Leaving Town Beach we head out to the Hovercraft Base , and it was out on the runway .
Reddell Beach takes on brighter colours in the midday sun shine
Around to Gantheaume Beach , there was a bus load of kids doing lifesaving drills etc , not many cars here today - that will change later no doubt .
No visit to Broome will be complete without going to Cable Beach , this is looking down to Gantheaume Point in the distance .
Very tropical feel to the grassy area behind the beach .
We kept getting a rattle on our tv antenna of an evening , and I thought it must have been a bird , turns out it was this Tawny Frogmouth Owl . It didn't mind posing for a photo .
