2 & 3/4/16 Denmark Coast

 2/4/16
Sorry folks , no blog today , I punished myself with a game of flog ( that is golf spelt backwards ) . It was more flog than golf !! Lyn had the pleasure of her own company for the afternoon .

3/4/16

We wake to sunshine & blue sky , do some washing , then head off up the road to the lookouts we were at the other day .
Ocean Beach looks much better with sun as does the cliff line that heads down toward West Cape Howe .We took the photos at Lions Lookout .

The drive today took us to the cliff line on the other side of the bay - Nullaki Peninsular , the photo that's next is looking back toward the lookouts where we took the first photo's from .

You can't get away from links to where you come from - we were enjoying the view from the lookout when a gentleman came up and stood beside us and started talking , turns out he married a lady from Sutton Forest and they live in Dalby Queensland - probably couldn't get any further away from both places , yet here we are !!
The Nullaki Peninsular comes from the eastern end of Wilson Inlet and is opposite Denmark , and then is connected to Ocean Beach via the beach itself . It is a conservation park , but you can buy a block of it to live on if you wish !! It has underground power as well , the blocks are probably 30 acres or so of coastal heath scrub , sand and hills .
There is a very shallow boat ramp nearly opposite Denmark - the whole inlet looks to be fairly shallow . We had lunch down at the picnic area beside the boat ramp . It was like a mill pond today with very little wind and made for nice photos .

There were lots of black swans on the inlet , must have been over 100 !!

Continuing on , we went to Lowlands Beach - down past the end of the long cliff line . The southern ocean was pounding the rocks with plenty of force - water was shooting upwards 10 to 15 m in the air impressive to watch !!

From here we went around to Cosy Corner , it's near the entrance to West Cape Howe NPark . There are views from the beach to a wind farm that is close to Albany , a bit far away for photo's with the sea spray , but here's the beach .

The next part of the drive was the cream of the crop , we climbed up a really steep hill and turned into West Cape Howe NP . The road in took us past recent bush fire damage - that recent it was still smoking in places - the road to West Cape Howe ( a fire trail ) was closed due to the fire , so we kept going . There was a fork in the road , the right hand side took you to a lookout , we went left driving down the gravel road carved into the side of the hill , rounded a few corners and then it was there in front of us - Shelley Beach - a beautiful sight , steep hills running down to the ocean and granite rocks , crystal clear water and beautiful white sand beach . This photo is the view from the back of the ute !!

We drove down to the carpark / campground and parked , there were a lot of cars there and some campers as well , people fishing on the beach , and some seagulls and other ocean going birds ( we don't know their names !! ) Walking down the beach was a bit difficult as the sand was very soft , and I can understand why nobody was swimming - the water temp wasn't very high !!! Still , it was a nice walk , you could see through the waves - the water is that clear !!

Back in the ute and up the hill , this time we went to the lookout - turns out this is a spot they hang glide and paraglide from , there are 2 ramps to launch from , and normally flying wouldn't be a problem as there is normally plenty of wind here - not today !! Anyway , the view is absolutely awesome - see for yourself !! Beach to the right , cliffs to the left !!

We drove back through some grazing land , bright green grassy fields and very well conditioned cattle .
Half an hour later we were back at the park , washing in and relaxing with a beer & some salsa !!
