4/4/16 Green Pools & Waterfalls at beaches

Awake to an overcast sky again , this one didn't look like clearing away to a nice day however . Lunch packed , we went and paid for another day , then headed off back toward Walpole . First stop was at Green Pool , a stretch of beach protected by granite boulders , giving a very safe place to swim / snorkel , and a very popular swimming pool for the locals .

With huge granite boulders running down into the water , it was time for a wander around them . There were hundreds of crabs in & out of the water  , fish swimming in all the pools , the water clean and clear .

There were entrances through the rocks for the waves to spill water through . The channel below was like a set of rapids with water flowing through and into the main pool .

The main area is huge , with a sandy bottom and beautiful green water . Even when the ocean outside the rocks is angry , it's still safe with very little swell getting in .

From here it is a short walk over the rocks , or a slightly longer one up a set of steps , around to Elephant Cove . This is where you find elephant rock and elephant beach . Elephant Rock is the rather large granite boulder on the right of the photo , personally I could see a baby elephant in the rock in the pool .

This is the pool from above . There is a band of dark rock running along the far side of the pool , it is not the same as the rest of the rock, and we haven't seen any like this in the other places we have been recently .

This photo looks like a herd of elephants from behind .

We wandered back to the green pool , up these steps to a car park - another carpark to the one we were in - we could have walked down the road , but chose to go back down to the beach and back up to our carpark - the extra exercise will do us good .

Okay , down the road a bit further is Waterfall Beach , so we had a walk down the beach .The only other people there , were 3 fishermen . Not really expecting to find a waterfall , we were pleasantly surprised to find a small waterfall , with flowing water running down the beach & into the ocean .

The sand in the cliff was also an added bonus - we had some coloured sand to check out as well !!

Further down the same access track is Madfish Bay , a small cove with a small beach . The view from this photo is toward Lights Beach where we went a couple of days ago .

From here we headed into the hills to the north and found a cheese factory , and what a nice one it was too . We tried several varieties , some island spiced feta , some chilli gouda , chilli feta , and a chilli fromage - all of which are excellent !! We only bought a couple to take with us .
The weather had started to get a little more serious with rain starting to fall , so we headed around a few different roads looking for a dry picnic area - no such luck , we didn't find any , and ended up near a walking trail , so had lunch there .
We then headed up another road - Mt Shadforth Rd - it took us up to a mobile phone tower on Mt Shadforth . Unfortunately the cloud and rain also thought they'd have a look at it as well . We headed back down to town , did some shopping and headed home , an early finish for the day .
