1/2/24 Windy Harbour

Kicked out of Pemberton , we headed out to Windy Harbour ( they closed the park to re bitumen the roads ) . It was another big drive , 57 kms I think , and we were there before 11am !! Fortunately they let us in and we could set up , rather than sit round & wait till 2pm . Here's the view over the boat ramp area and Volunteer Rescue HQ .

The beach has had loads of sand deposited , so the ramp is now about 30m out of the water - you have to drive down onto the beach to launch your boat . The locals are all over it , most have tractors to tow the boats over the sand . The visitors that come down here to fish get bogged and expect the locals to pull them out !
After setting up and having lunch , we went up to the D'Entrecasteaux National Park and had a walk around the lighthouse ( it's all electronic now , with a light on top of a mast ), then down to the Windows Lookout . The cliffs are all limestone , so are fragile and weathering , making for interesting shapes and holes .

This is looking out to Quagering Island

This is looking back to the fishing village surrounding the 2nd bay .

Next day it was time for a walk down to Salmon Beach , the headland in the distance is Tookulup Lookout .

Spectacular surrounds for this beach .

Some aerial shots of the beach .

Here we are just enjoying the views . The carpark is above our heads , with a walk down the sand hill , then up the dune to this seat , then down again to the beach .

There was some pink seaweed washed up on the beach .

After lunch I got all energetic and went for a ride , first stop was Cathedral Rock - a chunk of limestone cliff that had fallen years ago .

There's the Survivors Trail that leads back up to the lighthouse , so I continued on my way up the hill.
Views were equally impressive along the way .

It's a well formed gravel track , quite a distance from the cliff edge - they don't want you going close to it !!

The was the odd flower about , but not many .

I made it back to the top and headed back down the bitumen road to the van for a 9klm ride .
The late afternoon light on the cliffs was impressive we went back up for sunset .

From Tookulup Lookout looking toward Salmon Beach .

Everything was looking good for sunset until another band of cloud in the distance stopped it all , this is as good as it got . We chatted to a local for quite a while , she filled us in on a lot of details about Windy Harbour .

Well that's it for our short stay here , weather has been interesting - great at times , windy as you would expect at others , rain and sun . But we dodged the heat wave that's been hitting Perth and most of the state of WA . Here's a map link :- https://www.google.com/maps/d/edit?mid=17KiQsgoOAXghFPyPAjIp6WowxclkTUw&usp=sharing
