Today we headed out to Lights Beach , not far out of town - only a 10min drive . Arriving at the carpark we had a look at the beach below , crystal clear water , sand & some sea weed . There were plenty of cars in the carpark , but no-one to be seen on the beach - better go round to the other side & check it out .
Found that there were quite a few people on the beach this side - about 20?? 😂 that's a few people here ! It was a nice morning and there's plenty of beach to walk , people had their dogs out for a walk or were sun baking , a few brave souls were also swimming .
Further down toward the beach , the rocks pop out of the sand , dominating this end of the beach . This is called Central Beach , and the section in the distance is Back Beach .
We wandered down a section of the Bibbulmun Track , down to the western end of Light's Beach and explored some of the rocks .
Some aerial shots of the rocks and beach follow . This is Lights Beach
Here's Lights , Central and Back Beaches , and Wilson Inlet can be just seen in the distance left of middle top of photo .
Here's the geology lesson , there's a band of Dolerite Rock carving it's way through the Granite Rock . It is about 3-4m wide . Okay lesson over 😂
Here's the steps from Lights Beach back up to the carpark .
From here we went towards Greens Pool and Elephant Rocks - This is where all the people were . The carparks were full and people were parked up to 500m from the carpark , so we headed over to Madfish Bay , it was much quieter , so we sat and had lunch before going for a wander down the beach .
The beach area is small , there were 8 people down there at a very nicely protected beach . There are next to no waves and a sandy base - good for kids , also fairly shallow .
There are granite rock areas separating the small beaches and private bays .
The water here was very shallow , I walked across and didn't get water above my knees . This one is looking back across toward the carpark .
After wandering around for a while I headed back and we drove around to Waterfall Beach . Here's the entry to the beach and some more swell getting to the beach , waves not so friendly for kids .
This is the waterfall , a surprising amount of water falling out of the hill . It is spring fed , so it's fresh water - not sure how good it was for drinking , but I do know it was cold - my feet were getting quite cool.
There's some minerals in the sand that form patterns with the flowing water , cool to look at .
This is from the granite outcrop on the western end of the beach . Amazing what grows in minute amounts of dirt in the cracks .
Here's an aerial view of that rock . We had an Eagle Ray scavenging in the sand just beside the beach , but wouldn't cooperate for a good photo - really , wildlife these days 😉🤣
This is Waterfall Beach , you can see where the waterfall flows into the ocean .
This is looking back around the corner to Madfish Bay . It got it's name from someone who saw some big fish swimming around madly chasing some smaller fish for lunch .
That was enough for us today , so headed for home , here's a map link :- https://www.google.com/maps/d/edit?mid=14tqp8Ku0NLPeTU5EmMzkv5Ar1lk_sHo&usp=sharing
