23/1/24 Cape Leuwin & Hamelin Bay

Via some backroads down to Augusta today , we crossed the Blackwood River . It's saltwater at this point and there's a boat ramp close by as well as a campground - more for camper trailers & tents from what we saw , lots of trees as well , so difficult for solar . Still a pretty spot .

The ocean down here is crystal clear , making for great shots from above . This is taken just up the road from the Augusta Boat Ramp & Harbour .

The boat harbour can be seen top right of photo , they quarried a lot of the stone onsite , which saved them enormous amounts of money .

This is Cape Leeuwin and lighthouse in the distance .

This is around the coast a little further near Skippy Rock looking south to the lighthouse .

This is the view further north toward Hamelin Bay .

Speaking of Hamelin Bay , here it is . We headed around there after having some lunch at the the boat harbour . It's claim to fame are the stingrays that swim up close to the edge of the sand . There were 3 or 4 while we were there .

The main beach area is popular , the carparks are usually pretty full , there's a boat ramp as well . The beach is handy as it can be sheltered from the southerly winds .

We had a walk up to an elevated lookout , and cooled our feet off in the water . The water here is warmer than at Augusta - which isn't far away - it has the Leeuwin Current which brings down warmer water from the northwest coast from as far as Exmouth , maybe even higher , hence why there's a temperature difference . So there's some information for you all . Here's a map link :- https://www.google.com/maps/d/edit?mid=11JgN3UiDw5YeWPzn1iXzXAel-f69kmg&usp=sharing
