Awake early again , but resisted the urge and stayed till 7:30 . Up & into it again , it was going to be hot today 27 degrees and it’s only 8:30 . We packed & hitched & emptied , then left the park , stopping for a gas refill at Home hardware .
Travelling down the road toward Halls Creek , todays destination is either Warmun , Spring Creek or Bungle Bungle Caravan Park - we’ll choose when we get there !!
We have travelled this stretch of hwy a couple of times now , so we are happy when we get to the turn to head south - new road means new sights !!! The first few klms were okay , then after that , after every corner , over every hill the scenery changed , the hills turned into mountain ranges , the road seemed to be leading you down valleys , sometimes you felt like you were driving in a cutting .
The countryside seemed to change regularly , some due to the areas that had been burnt recently , others due to the different trees and shrubbery growing , then there were the hills and mountains - some had spinifex grass growing amongst the gum trees , others had no grass , just rocks from bottom to top , with the odd tree thrown in for good measure .
The burnt areas were interesting , where the branches or trees were laying , they got burnt , naturally , but the ash they leave is the interesting part - it’s almost white and stays in the shape of the branch or tree - just like a forensic mark up of a murder scene - white lines everywhere - you get my meaning ???
We didn’t think the landscape would change this much or have as many mountains as it does - it is truly amazing !!! The Kimberley certainly has been full of surprises for us , and we are really still in the eastern section of it .
We reached Warmun , an aboriginal community , that has a roadhouse & caravan park . We stopped and had lunch , refuelled and carried on to Spring Creek rest area , where we will stay for 2 nights and go into Purnululu NP ( Bungle Bungles ). We got a spot down in the lower area , closer to the creek . There are hundreds of fish in here and the water is flowing - albeit slowly , the fish are anything up to about 150mm (6” in the old terms ) . We watched many little birds coming down for a bath - bit of a splash & dash really , as we cooled our feet off in the water .
There is a lady doing a walk for life , raising money for prostate cancer , She started in Stanthorpe Qld , and has reached here so far , she is going the whole way round Australia - some walk !!! Her husband is a prostate cancer survivor - given 7 months to live 15 years ago !!!
It’s hard to prepare yourself for a trip to a location like this , unless you are told / instructed by someone that has been here before , you have no comprehension of what is in front of you . I think we are blundering our way through it , you can only research so much , before reality comes in and reminds you that you are human after all !!
Feel free to comment if you wish , There is a world wide audience out there - let us know what you think !!! It will be good to hear from you !!
