Moving day again , we leave Timber Creek at 9am after filling the water tank ready for a couple of days at Keep River NP , just near WA border .
Heading down the road , the most noticeable thing was the road & how bad it was , undulating , wheel tracks from road trains ,& uneven surfaces . We cruised along at 85klm/hr most of the time untill the road got better .
We passed some of the more well known cattle stations - Auvergne , Bullo River & Newry . Bullo River Station would have some of the most outstanding escarpment scenery you have ever seen - it’s hard to keep your eyes on the road - somewhat important when you’re the driver !!
We got closer & closer to the escarpment country , and started to drive beside some of them , some of the blocks of rock that have fallen away from the cliffs are the size of about 10 cars - you wouldn’t want to be around when they fell !!!
The colours in the cliffs continues the orange / red & grey theme that seems to prevail here .
Kapok trees are now having seed pods starting to open , we’ve been seeing the green pods for a while now , it’s interesting to see things evolving .
There are more rocky outcrops , ridgelines & hills as we get closer to the border .
We get to Keep River NP turn off , so turn off the hwy and go in . The road is gravel & a little corrugated , so we go slow & ease our way in . We reached cockatoo lagoon and the rangers residence & office , so parked the ute to go and ask some questions . I turned and looked at the RV to see water running out of several places - this isn’t normal !!! We investigate and find the water tank has nearly emptied out - it was 80% full this morning , so that’s about 110 litres of water finding it’s way out of the RV any way it can !!!
That made our decision easy - head to Kununurra - no water , no camping !!! It also created a few problems , Lyn had everything sorted so that we would finish off all the salad vegetables & fruit , over the next two days , before we had to go through quarantine .
Stopping about 300m from the Quarantine Station , we got into the RV and cooked lunch , finishing as much as we could so as not to have to throw too much away - biggest lunch we’ve had!!!
Carrying on , we were checked for everything and let go , only 30 odd klms to get to Kununurra .
A bonus , we gained an hour & a half when we crossed the border - didn’t realise till we got to the van park and checked in for a couple of nights !!
We set up and then started to wipe all the storage cupboards out , and dry things out - must of been interesting to be watching from a distance - all cupboards empty and contents spread out all over the grass !!
Time to have a look at the tank , nothing obvious till Lyn turned on the hose and put some water in the tank , then I found the leak and proceeded to mop up half a bucket of water .
Everything back into some sort of order again , it was time for a beer and a sit down !!!
