What a difference a little water makes 18/8/15

Up with the birds , not used to the time change yet , it will happen though !! Breakfast done , the bikes unloaded , we headed down the street to the info centre - you guessed it - for some brochures . That done we headed back and started to check them out .
Into the ute and off for a drive to Ivanhoe Crossing , and a look at the Sandalwood Factory Shop out in the irrigation area .
After leaving the town area , you drive over an irrigation channel , and straight into a mango plantation , followed by sandalwood , and then more sandalwood . Another couple of kilometres and there is another crop of a low growing bean or pea type plant - we didn't stop to ask it what it was !!

The ridge behind looked fairly impressive as well .
Before long we'd arrived at Ivanhoe Crossing - the old crossing over the river that has been closed due to the amount of water flowing over it !!

Back in the ute , we drive further down the road and find a field full of sunflower plants , with some in flower . Beside it was another field with a few different things growing it , pumpkins , sunflowers , cauliflowers etc, etc .

Further down the road , we find the Sandalwood Factory showroom & cafe . They have a range of skin care products , mosquito coils , incense sticks , perfumes and more . You can see why they grow sandalwood , when you can get $1.6 million for 311kgs of oil , and they have markets all over the world . Austrialia is the largest supplier of sandalwood oil & products .
Here's a picture for all my old work mates - CCT WA style - I don't expect anyone else to understand this - just a type of cable for delivering electricity .

Back into town and we filled up with diesel at the co-op 24hr self service pumps - it was $1.44 / litre, in town it was $1.589 - nearly 14c a litre difference , I know where we will top up before leaving here.
Time for a lookout - off to Kellys Knob Lookout - its only about 500m from where we are staying and on top of a ridge of red rock , there is also another lookout higher up that requires a steep walk and a bit over an hour to get there - it was too hot today to do that part of it .

There is a tree growing in the cracks in the rock , it's amazing how it grows there and what its done to survive . Check the roots out , where they go , and where the tree is growing - makes you wonder how its holding on !!

There are certainly a lot of Boab trees growing here , here are a couple .

Off to Lake Kununurra to sit by the water while we have some lunch and check out the Diversion Dam we drove over yesterday .

Back into town and round to Lily Creek Lagoon , which is right beside the highway .

The lagoon joins Lake Kununurra , and has a housing development built around one side .
Back to the park for a swim , then a beer .
We got chatting to the neighbours , and were invited to 5 er's down the back . We meta group of people , two couples from Noosa , the other from Yarawonga in Victoria . The couple from Noosa were originally from Bowral - David Torr - he had the Mitsubishi dealership in Moss Vale , but moved away when the business was sold - small world !!!
Thats it for today , see ya !!
