Today we decided to do the touristy thing - we visited a berry farm and Margaret River Chocolate Factory -- YUMMMMMM !!!
The Berry Farm is only 7klms from where we are at the moment , past a few wineries and farms and forest . There were no fresh berries to be found , lots of jams , chutneys , sauces and ports . We tried some mango & macadamia jam , spicy thai chilli sauce , mango & chilli sauce and orange & vanilla butter - all were quite nice , but we left empty handed .
From there we headed east , then north before going back west again to the township of Cowaramup. It must be famous for something , and this something is the statues of 42 cows and calves all through town . Some are reclining , some sitting , others just standing around . In a bit of a twist , there is a cafe called The Black Sheep ??? Then there is the cow festival - they have a world record 1352 people dressed as cows !!!! Exciting isn't it !! The butcher isn't just a butcher , he is the Cowaramup Meat Specialist no less !!
We had lunch in the park with a Collingwood supporter - a one eyed magpie !! - yes it was a magpie with one eye !!
Time for a change , we drove out to Margaret River Chocolate Factory , Marcia & Rick had recommended it to us . We parked in a large carpark and wandered in the large double doors to visual overload - a world of chocolate - truffles , chocolate coated nuts , coffee beans , ginger , rocky road , flavoured chocolate bars , white chocolate , milk chocolate and dark chocolate , eggs ready for Easter , and then there were the free sample buttons/beans - which I had to try , all of them , several times - just to compare of course !! The cafe looked interesting as well , we had a peppermint tea and a Hot Chocolate - both were good , but the hot chocolate was made with half a glass of buttons / beans and topped up with hot milk , then dusted with some more chocolate powder , with a couple of marshmallows on the side . I think I may have been running on that chocolate for the rest of the afternoon !!! It was scrumptious , and we purchased a couple of blocks as well !!!
Time for some sightseeing , not far away is Gracetown out on the coast . There are so many wineries around here , it is incredible !! Grace town is another small village with a shop / petrol pump , a lovely bay and boat ramp , protected from the southerly winds . I'll let the photos do the rest of the description .
Time to head back to Margaret River to do some shopping , and head for home .
